Paying for diagnostics

Following a recent encounter with the dreaded "Restricted performance" and with another long trip (2,000+ miles) coming up in a month I asked my two local LR dealers if I would need to pay for diagnostics to see if there was a fault code stored that could help with diagnosing the cause. The car has 12 months LR warranty remaining. One dealer said that the diagnostics would be free of charge as I have LR Warranty and one said that they needed to charge half an hour that would be recovered through the warranty if they find a problem. The difference isn't huge but I would have expected a more consistent approach.

Does anyone have any experience that would show me which of these is the normal way to proceed.

1. Never paid for diagnostics during the 3 year manufacturer's warranty regardless of whether a probem existed or not.
2. Never paid for diagnostics with LR Extended Warranty if a fault was found and rectified.
3. Had to pay for diagnostics with LR Extended Warranty once (£80 IIRC) when I thought there was a problem but they thought it was minor and within the advertised tolerances so classified as an "adjustment" (which wasn't covered under warranty) as opposed to a "repair" (which would have been covered). Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I have the IIDTool and it didn't show anything that looked related. Could someone please tell me if an LR Dealer's equipment can see more, or maybe different faults?

No, you can consider the IID to be comprehensive. Thumbs Up

Fault codes do not always have the answer and live data is invaluable too. Wink Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
