If you are seeking piece of mind then take out the warranty. My experience was with a Freelander 2 which over 3 years never saw the inside of a dealers expect for servicing, so in the fourth year I took the risk. The RRS is a bit different as the car is considerably more complex and more expensive to repair. If you can bear the cost and your car has a good history then you may decide to take the risk and save the premium. If not take out the cover. Only you can answer your question. |

Difficult. Suspect I may be in a minority of one here but putting the cash into a savings account is really 'self insurance' and it is what I've always done. Probably if two other factors are true i.e.you can deal with most repairs yourself except where a lift or special equipment is required and you have the cash to deal with a major event like total engine failure: then go for it. I'd rather have the cash in my account than hand it over to an insurance company. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

My RRS has made heavy use of the warranty. The warranty has paid out more each year than it has cost. Much more.

Fair comment. Of course fortune plays a part and if you work your car hard then it is more likely that parts will fail. But remember insurance companies are not in this business to lose money. The most obscenely rich person I know (£10m house, penthouses in Dubai, etc etc) runs a warranty company - go figure.

Midsman, I have just extended my warranty with L/R, for peace of mind. I doubt anything will go wrong with mine in the next 12 months as it isn't driven hard nor has it done that many miles. (25k) I see this from both sides of the fence. Bank your money at £200 a month, ok, but what if something goes wrong at month 3? Is £600 in your kitty going to be enough to fix the problem? Who knows. What is the mileage of your car? Where as with a L/R warranty, if mine blows up big time, (most unlikely) Hyperthetically of course, then i have enough in the kitty from day one with my L/R warranty as it covers up to the value of my car. It is a gamble, but i would rather the dealer sort it out. + I get a courtesy car while they fix it. |

I did the same as Paddi when my Defender's cover ran out - I have spent so little of the money invested that I am using the cash now to replace a rotting tailgate door and all it's fittings and fitting LED headlights with the money put in every year since 2008. The savings account also pays for an annual service, Green Flag Recovery and the MOT. OK so it's not a complex vehicle like the RRS but parts and labour are still costly, but it hasn't cost me anywhere near as much to fix the few things that have gone wrong as I pay into the Defender account annually which was the same amount as the original extended warranty would have cost. I also use any of the three local Land Rover non-franchise specialists. Now the account has reached a substantial amount I no longer pay into it as no interest is accruing either. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Warranty Direct do not want my vehicle, 3 years ago I took out their "top of the range" policy, can't remember the name now, and paid £2000 for it, now they have sent me a renewel quoting me the bottom of the range policy, which is totally useless to anybody, let alone a RRS, despite speaking to them on the phone they have failed to send me a new and improved policy, yet they ring up nearly everyday asking me to renew, "renew what" I ask them, I still waiting for a proper quote, then I get put on hold and ultimately dissconected 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater ))) |

Shakeapaw, what's the car's history? Have you cost them money? Also, as your car is coming up 7 years old and is a marque that has known issues you have probably been hit by the "computer says no" bug. |

Shakeapaw, My RRS is 10 years old and WD are more than happy to take it on - they have quoted me £930 for 13 months cover on their 'PERFORMANCE AND PRESTIGE SECURE CARE' plan. Don't know how this compares to the plan you have now? I do know that it doesn't cover suspension components and they don't seem willing to budge in that respect. I think they stop covering vehicles when the mileage reaches 120k though - has yours? |

I've just contacted my warranty company as my 6 months is due for renewal since I bought the car.. mine's with The Auto Group. Ultimate cover, which will cover turbos too, I've just been quoted £796 for 12 months.

I've asked them repeatedly about adding suspension but they say it's just not possible with a car as old as mine... (10 years) I was more than happy to pay more as I'd imagine suspension is where I'm most likely to run into problems (mine is petrol so no turbo or timing belts to worry about) but no movement.

I have cost WD £600 for a gearbox claim, that is the only claim I have made in 3 year, the car is now on 108,000 miles, they know this as I have told them often enough. When the last adviser rang up he told me the quote had gone into my email deleted folder!!!
