Mine churns for a couple of seconds before starting. Did it that way before and after the starter was changed so I guess it's a "feature". 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

as TT said, its not the fact the engine spins over for while it's a case of nothing happening for a while, all you get is lights on the dash and a "cold start in progress" message ,,,,, thats if you notice it inbetween the panic attacks and pressing every button you can find 2010 RRS, TDV8

The sensor that contiols the delay is the engine coolant sensor so the delay is not dependent on air temperature. I can't remember the exact figures but if you leave the car out on a very cold night, say -2deg and then a warm front moves through and the air temperatures warms up to say 4deg, when you press the button you will still get a long delay before cranking as the engine block is muich colder than the air termperature. It can be disconcerting and makes you prod the button, but actually it indicates that the system is working. |

Yes most certainly the glow plugs, warming up. Years ago you had to do this manualy, hold key in first position till glow plug light went out, then turn key to second position to activate starter itisme |

My mk4 Golf used to activate the glow plugs when you unlocked the door. When you got in you could just turn the key as if it were a petrol engine. Transparent in operation and worked very well.

Just a thought but is your wife pressing the brake pedal hard enough? It needs a bit of welly and I know we had this issue in our house at the start. |

Agreed tony, that's pretty much what mine does. It does need some pressure on the brake. |
