Hi, we have a 2010 RRsport Black which we love but we seem to have had a spot of bad luck! Last week after driving to work with no problems, I went to start up again and had the following alerts: Gearbox Failure / Restricted transmission / No forward alert... it moved very slowly so called LR assist.

Young lad tried to reboot and pulled diagnostic cord out by mistake whilst pc in operation - then car stuck in PARK...

Dragged onto the back of an AA lorry - taken to local LR dealer who has stated the following: after a £140 diagnostic check,a module is not communicating with the gearbox and it will cost £3K+ to replace...and only then will they know what is wrong!

This is an amazing cost just for a module and I wanted to know if anyone has ever had the same problem or can help...

FYI - we had the fuel tank dropped the week before to replace a faulty seal... would the battery have been disconnected and caused an issue??

Battery, earth, brake light switch would be my first areas to look at. I would t spend 3k on a module until I was sure that it wasn't something simpler. I am sure that someone more knowledgeable will be along soon to help,out. Good luck.

That sounds like the most awful service from the AA. By your description it certainly sounds as if there is insufficient power from the battery and the reasons for that are most often a failed battery or a failing alternator which has fried the battery (both common occurrences).

Usually connecting jump leads from the AA van to your battery would provide enough power at least to move the gear lever out the park position into neutral. Did they really DRAG it on to the transporter with the transmission locked ?

Of course there is a chance that the LR dealership has correctly diagnosed the problem but on the other hand they might just be trying to pull your pants down (and they do not generally cover themselves in glory in this respect as many contributors on this forum will confirm).

I agree with BKHK (and that does not happen here very often ) and would be wanting some assurance that just fitting a new battery doesn't fix the problem. OBD faults involving modules losing communication do not always indicate there is actually a fault with the module or the network. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I dread to think what damage might have been done to the transmission by dragging the car onto a trailer rather than lifting it with a hoist. Last thing you should do with any Land Rover is drag it, should always be lifted if you cannot get it out of P or the EPB off 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
