Alternator Failed.

Shortly after starting this morning got a warning CHARGING FAULT. Called LR Assist and the guy said it won't be the alternator they rarely fail on the 3.0 TDV6, probably a loose conection at the negative terminal. Wrong! the alternator has gone tits up or it is not "talking" to the electrical system.
Car with dealer and LR Approved are dusting off the warranty. Apparently the cost will affect the national GDP figures. Big Cry

One month's ownership - 2 major faults!!!!

LR Assist said most unusual the Sport is generally most reliable!

^^^ "LR Assist said most unusual the Sport is generally most reliable!"

There's one or two around on this site might want to take issue with LR on that statement.

I'm one of them!

Dealer has found a TSB covering my fault and it requires the wiring loom from the alternator to be replaced, so they are starting there. Will know more on Monday

RIGHT HAND? LEFT HAND?

Told this morning by LR that the part is not available until 20th March at the earliest.

Call form dealer this PM, LR have dispatched the part so hope for the car back tomorrow.

Fixed! New alternator and wiring. The fault was a long standing loose connection at the positive post on the alternator. This caused intermittent warnings and failure to charge. Also it arced and burnt away the post, hence the new alternator. Fingers crossed that this is end of the saga.

Loose connections (and loose pipes) seem to be stock-in-trade for LR products, especially if they're worked on by LR dealer technicians... Censored

Hopefully this will be your last issue Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks and I hope so. Over the last few weeks I have had an Evoque, Kia Sorento and a Nissan X Trail while mine was in dock. All of them were high spec, but when I drove the RRS home yesterday I realised that once you have driven a RRS nothing else compares. I'm hooked so I had better just put it all down to experience.
