Okay - they say you always hear the complaints about a product but seldom the good. I'm thinking there are a lot of you guys out there with good healthy stories of their sports actually not falling apart and lasting.

Can someone share some positive stories for the people who are always worrying it will explode on the next drive?

Personally mine has been fantastic. Yes I had a big service bill there but it drives a dream and is not hard to fuel with the current costs of diesel. I was wondering if you happy motorists have some tips to keeping it good.

Mine would be:

When braking lots on a big decent. Don't sit on the brake at the traffic lights as it is bad for the discs.

Use the handbrake.

Don't sit in drive with the brake on.

Sit in neutral when stationary.

Clean and polish plastics at least once a month.

Oil twice a year.

Oil your transmission.

Top Up levels 4 times a year at least.

Don't mount kerbs and hit ramps fast or your suspension bushes will cost you.

Fuel with premium as much as you can.

Treat the fuel as much as you can.

Don't rev high on a cold engine.

Whisper nice things to it when your driving.

pamper the interior leather with a 4 stage cleaning and moisture 4 times a year.

Don't add lots of tack to it.

Use the right tyre pressures.

Drive under 60mph.

Corner wisely.

Every now and again clear it out on the motorway of soot with a good x5 race.

Haha - I do, so afraid to blow the timebomb up! I love it as it is, great to cruise around in slow. I love the sound of the v8, I like everything about it and just want my wife to let me keep it!

Shame its been posted before, should have searched for that, I keep reading the sad stuff and I know there is good in these metal beasts somewhere... 

My 3.0TDV6 is just over 5 now with 56000 miles. I've serviced it at a combination of LR and private garages and I've never had a single problem with it. All it has cost me is some new brake pads (I think the discs are still original).

I think I obviously have one that was well screwed together but I also think that growing up on a farm and doing all my own maintenance to cheap, second-hand, ancient machinery has taught me a thing or two about mechanical sympathy.

Wait until it's warm before giving it the beans (I v rarely give it the beans), that's driving 101 right there. Similarly, a 3 tonne, 3.0 turbo diesel is not suitable for regular short trips, buy a little fiesta for those journeys.

Look ahead and anticipate, I think my brakes last a long time because I try and avoid using them. Use a high gear going down a steep hill to avoid using them for prolonged periods.

Don't hit bumps hard (it weighs almost 3 tonnes).

Never drive if you thinks there's something up with it. Preventative maintenance is always a lot cheaper. Use forums also, I did to clean out my sensors and who knows what that may have saved.

If you fit stupid big wheels to it then don't moan when you're suspension bushes disintegrate (or if you develop rattles).

I know it's a "sport" but I never corner hard or race away from traffic lights because it's still a big, heavy machine and you'll put so much stress on parts.

Use the hand-brake, I hate it when my wife just uses 'Park' and then you have to clunk it into drive when you're on a slope.

Finally, don't be precious about it either. Go and get it dirty, stretch out the suspension and bloody enjoy owning a machine most people only dream about.

There we go. The gods of Fate have been challenged. Expect me back on here in a couple of months complaining about a blown engine and shredded gearbox.

Ours has been great, just replaced the eas pump today after nearly a year of ownership so I'm happy with that.

Clean it regular, especially in the winter
Keep the tyre pressures right
Check fluids as said

I drive mine like I stole it

Always in S mode, rarely under 90 on the motorway and gets cleaned once every 3 months. Taken it off-road a few times and generally use and abuse it daily.

Now on 50k miles in 3 years and not had a problem with it at all*....I did take out the extended warranty though. A friend of mine has 240k miles on his D4 with no major issues and that's abused (but serviced) regularly.

I honestly think underuse is one the biggest killers for complex cars. Same with bikes - I own a BMW GS with electronic suspension and never had an issue as its used daily but reading the forums you'd think they are as unreliable as Range Rovers!

*apart from the first day of ownership when it broke down due a leaking gearbox!

So from the two lists, to keep your 65000 quid car up together, the list of don'ts is huge and unrealistic. 🔫
With a degree and 30 years of working experience with things mechanical, it would appear that your vehicle isn't fit for purpose
They are great cars, nothing compares and the V8 is a strong engine when it works.
The fact that Waranties Direct and others rate these cars the most unreliable second only to BMW M3 says it all. My personal experience of owning three Sports all of which had major issues is nothing to do with how they were driven. First car was rejected as they couldn't sort gearbox, later found out it ended up having a new loom to solve issue. Second one did 22000 miles in a year, had wonky headlights, rattled and banged and eventually was traded when V8 was purchased. The history of that is well known, it did 48000 miles yet never needed bushes, ball joints and drop links were all changed early in life to solve the clonk but never worn. My V8 worked for its living, pulling trailers, caravan or high speed sortees in Europe, towing a Porsche track car. It did it so well I kept it double the length I normally keep a car even with all its failures in the mistaken hope that it would last having had so much work carried out. How wrong I was.
The barge isn't a patch to drive, but there is a big BUT to owning it. If it's not used for weeks it still starts, I don't spend a month a year running back and forwards to dealers and it works reliably on the road.
There may be owners who don't have problems, they are the minority which is a real shame........ 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈

That's interesting to read. I don't rate the vehicle very high, I LOVE it, but it is not a great motor. I did expect though, driving it a bit more carefully would result in a happier ownership. To be honest, you drive any machine hard it will not last as long. I've seen this with anything I've ever owned, so why would this be any different? 

Ok - feel good stories - since 2010 when I swapped to RRS's there is nothing to compare when it's doing it's job and cruising down the highways or getting past boring cars clogging the road - love it

Sadly my enjoyment has been spoiled by inept dealers and poor customer service. Ok they weren't as luxurious/comfortable but before the sports I had 6 faultless LR's over 10 years and felt like I was a cherished customer - ah the good old days before rocketing sales and profits

My TDV8 has been great

Only had rear anti roll bar bushes which it needed when I bought it (DIY job £36), then replacement spill rail o ring 92p. I've done 12000 miles and took it round france last year.

I'm thinking of swapping soon but it's been the second longest car I've owned at 14 months only to be beaten by the full fat which was 18 month. I have issues of getting bored with cars but the range rovers don't seem to have that effect. I'm only thinking of changing this time for something a bit smaller my wife because I have a weekend toy to play out in now, plus a work car.

The problem you have trying to find a replacement is nothing compares to it.

My first one only had wear & tear related issues. It was 4.5 years old and had done 49k miles when I traded it in so admittedly there shouldn't have been any wear & tear apart from tyres and brakes but I accept it is a heavy car with a complex suspension. Certainly not enough to put me off getting another one despite test driving a few newer competitors.

The current one also had a few minor issues (not wear & tear) but they were put right (eventually). Hope I haven't jinxed it now

I have taken both my RRSs to Europe a few times (including a 2300 and a 2000 mile trip) in all types of weather and they performed brilliantly - wouldn't do those sort of journeys in anything else.

After nearly 3 years of RRS ownership in total (I didn't buy either of them new), I still look forward to every journey, no matter how short. I am really struggling to see what I would replace it with  Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top
