What is wrong with these spike spiders

Hello
I had recently bought these from ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261805302081?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT

I had tried fitting them with no luck, on my RR sport 3.6td 2009 with wheels 275/45/R20.

The problem was not the size of the chains, but the locking disc that goes on the hup. That I couldn't fit.Because I was too close to the side walls.I can not understand why,as the wheel used in the instruction book of LR(255/50/R20 see photo attached) is of the same almost diameter with mine (7mm difference).

Obviously I needed spacers that did not came with the set.Usually generally spike spider snow chains are accompanied by 2 size spacers, bolts, and fixing clips to choose from.

I quess LR knows what is needed and puts those parts specifically in the set.But why not for my size?

I had send an email to Roof box http://www.roofbox.co.uk/scripts/rbvehsel4...NnUFIV8jsW

asking for their help. But if anyone knows what is happening please help

Also I'm attaching some photos of the confusing instruction pages of LR.

They keep saying about green sections of the chains, but as far I can see there aren't any green track sections on my chain

Hi,

The problem isn't really the diameter of the wheel but the depth between the wheel nut area and the outermost section of the wheel where the spikes spider hub/disc "sits". Don't try too hard as you could scuff the wheels. As you guessed, you need spacers. I bought the 17mm ones from roofbox and the hub then fitted easily. 34mm spacers would also work but the hub will then protrude too much outside the wheel. I can't confirm which spacer size you need as it may depend on your wheel style. May be the lack of spacers is why LR parts system now recommends a different part number for RRS snow traction system. However, LR005737 (Spikes Spider) works absolutely fine with spacers and probably the quickest and easiest to install/take off once the hub is fitted.

Regarding green section, may be the colour coding isn't right or some label is missing. I can't remember if mine has a green coloured section or not. Either way, I am sure they mean the section of the chain shaped like 'X' that is supposed to be aligned to the bottom of the tyre. The links should be adjusted in a way that the X section has shortest possible length i.e. the hooks should be inserted in the inner holes of the adjacent plastic bits rather than the outer holes.

Hope this helps. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Hello fkarim

Thank you for your comments and great help.I had viewed several videos with fitting instructions of spike spiders.
I can confirm what you said about the green section has to be on the bottom of the tire.
It must be, like you said, a wheel style thing.I wear the stormer wheels.I will order the 17mm spacers and a set of 22mm fixing clips. The kit I bought, came with 21mm,but managed to fit them too.
