How would you deal with this?

Bought an approved used sport from Stratstone which had the standard Land rover 6month warranty.
Car went as the car felt like there is a delay changing gear, sat nav is not working, voice control not working, tv and radio losing reception and heated screens not working properly.

I have received this email from the service team, what is the point of a warranty:

I have spoken to the warranty company, and unfortunately they will not pay for the diagnosis for your vehicle. Having said that, they said that if when diagnosing the vehicle we discover that it is a faulty part that is covered under warranty, then they will look into reimbursing you for this.

For the faults with your sat nav our technician is going to need an hour diagnosis to look into this further, this will be £156inc.

With regards to your gear box faults, it will need a gear box flush as a first step of repair as this may rectify the fault. The price for this will be £672.52, unfortunately this is something that won’t be covered by the warranty company.

How long after you bought the car are you taking it back in? If less than 3 months, I'd push back on everything and tell Stratstones it's their problem, stand your ground. If it's longer then you are going to have a harder job, but I'd still push back. That's a significant list of things that have gone wrong/not working so I'd be pushing them all the way to resolve at no cost to yourself. Wink

Regarding a gearbox flush, if you do end up paying, it's worth seeking out one of the sponsors on here who will no doubt be a lot cheaper than you've been quoted. Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

£156/hr to diagnose? Censored

You can get a full gearbox flush for half the dealer's price. And it will be a full flush not just the partial change that LR do.

As Beany says, stand your ground if you've only just bought it, otherwise take it to an indie at half the hourly rate. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I agree with BC Smile

Stratstone will not be talking about a proper gearbox flush where all the fluid is changed for new using a special 'dialysis' machine; they are talking about just a partial drain and refill (plus filter change if you are lucky) which probably won't help much.

One of our site sponsors will be able to beat Stratstone's price with a proper flush, filter change and gearbox reset.

Its not unlikely your entertainment system/sat nav problems would be solved by a hard reset (takes 5 minutes).

When you say the heated screens are not working 'properly' do you mean not coming on every time you press the switch? If so could just be a low battery - if the battery charge is low the energy management system won't let the heated screens operate. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Car dealers/traders have a legal obligation to the car they've sold for six month, regardless of them selling you a piece of crap warranty on top of that.

I also have to agree with Bc Smile Which isn't very often Laughing Wink
Post up the details of how long you have had the car, and when you first noticed all these problems.

I'd be blowing a gasket at the selling dealer. If the faults were there at purchase then it's the dealer not warranty that should be footing the bill. Talk to sales manager and tell him fix it at his own cost or you will back the car as it's not fit for purpose. Dealers are taking the Censored these days, they make the profit and expect everyone else to come behind paying to sweep up their problems. Makes my blood boil 👊👊🔫🔫🔫 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

It was purchased it on the 5th September and from day one of ownership on way home I noticed brake judder from 70-60, booked in they changed front disks and they noticed an oil leak, (which was an mot advisory and I was told was fixed prior to sale) along with a problem with control arms, so it was booked back in October time and I mentioned to them about the gearbox ( Considering it was an approved vehicle they didn't inspect it well) They topped it up and it was better until December time, I called them 19th Jan as I was away and it went in today. I also advised them of other faults being steering wheel not straight following the control arms being changed, seat belt warning light and chime goes when going over speed bumps, harsh ride and also this gearbox error where it feels its over revving. Im still waiting for an update on the other issues and i have emailed them to tell them to stick the inspection charges and I will be taking it further!!!

I'm sure the law is on your side up to 6 months, for second hand cars, stop driving it and take it back to the dealers, I'm sure your still covered under the lemon law

Check/replace your brake bulbs and consider replacing the switch. Wink Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
