Just joined RRS and D4 forums to get some thoughts. I gave up my 4.4 V8 FFRR earlier this year and now have an ML270 to run about it. Much missing LR / RR though so given new job am looking to get something say 2009-2010.

Probably give FFRR a miss as TDV8 of that age out of £££ I want to spend so looking at perhaps earlier RRS or Disco 4. Both forums, like the FFRR one, full of niggles etc but what car doesn't have some "features".

What I would love though are any experiences folk may have of owning both or even theirs v's previous FFRR.

I feel RRS is ok but love the practicality of the Disco. All kids gone, 2 ageing dogs that go in my car not the other half's Evoque and generally load up snowboard and ski gear.

All thoughts gratefully accepted.

If you want the Disco's practicality then go for it. The D4 is quite an update on the D3 as I understand it - I believe they even put the RRS's suspension settings on to the D4 to help the on road performance. I'd probably go for a SDV6 D4 if the budget allows. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

For practicality if definetley go for the D4, such a big update to the D3.
My brother has D4 HSE, and for space & practicality its a must,
Drives as good as a RRS, just has that extra space when needed compared to the sport,
Our sport takes up all the space in the boot with just the buggy lol.

Both are good as each other, just go for the one which suits you best,
But cant beat the looks of a sport

Having recently got into a D4 and having a MY12 RRS before, it really is a question of space in my view. The D4 is a cracking car, handles well and looks have really grown on me.

I'm not a fan of the new RRS and would much rather go for a FFRR should I be in that position as I think that the FFRR is a far better preposition for the money. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I'm trading accross this year to a D4. I want something a bit different from my sport but don't want to leave the brand. The extra space and the 'daddy-cool' factor over the sport have made my mind up for me. It's essentially the same car, just more practical for me.

Plus, the fact I can, in no way, afford a new sport also helps! but a D4 HSE with 13% military discount just about makes sense.

New Sport simply isn't worth the premium over the D4. Yes they are nice but a well spec'd D4 and some money in the bank makes far more sense to me. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈

I'm thinking the same. I'm really not sure about the new Sport. I'm sure it's an improvement dynamically, but it's looks too girly/evoke like from some angles. The latest D4 looks great and is very practical. Had a ride in one at the weekend on a 20 minute experience at Gaydon and it was excellent. The driver said all the testers considered in LR's best car

Yeah I'm going to save up and get a new one in September so I can sell mine just serviced with 12 months mot. I'm not sure when it's due to be replaced and normally it would be stupid to buy an old model at the end of the run, but knowing LR the new one will be £10k more so shouldn't hit old values. Plus, there might be a run out special like the black.
