£1258 for 4 tyres

So last night I hit a MASSIVE pothole in Cambridgeshire - it was like the crater on Star Wars with the teeth - anyway. Cracked 2 tyres. LR Assist came out to change one of the wheels to the spare and I limped home OK. This morning went to Pro Tyres in Wisbech and got the whole set of 4 changed and Hunter wheel alignment thingy.

4 x Continental Sport Contact 4x4 & Alignment = £1258

I'm now on bread and water for 6 months.

Were the damaged alloys Land Rover items or aftermarket ones? Are the new alloys LR ones?

How fast were you going at the time? I remember hitting a sharp edged pothole at only 50mph and it bent a rim. Not on the RRS, mind, this was in a Suzuki Swift Sport. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The alloys themselves were fine, I had them throughly checked. If they were damaged i'd have got my solicitor onto the case.

Trouble is, with 2 flats occurring at the same time and being in Cambs when I live in Herts meant I had to get at least 1 tyre replaced immediately so the car was mobile for the 80 mile trip home, but of course with space saver on too, meant having a pair done together. Ordering in advance would have been ideal so I'd save money but I needed the tyres there and then - and they only had Conti's in stock (how convenient for them) at £275 each fitted. Nowhere else had premium tyres in my size within a 30 mile radius.

It was pointed out that the other 2 tyres were wearing very thin and the shoulders were smooth as a snooker ball (I inspected them myself and agreed) so I had the other 2 done aswell.

It's a big expense BUT those tyres were new with the car and I've done 33,120 miles on the same set of continentals!!!!!!!!

Not bad going for a set of tyres recommended for about 16,000 miles....

Tyres

I need to replace three tyres on my RRS HSE 2008 which has 275/40/R20 SUNNY tyres on at present and the front two are nearly down to below limit on tread then the rear has a puncture which needs replacing.

Few questions -

Are the Continentals any good - its what kwik fit said to put on but the fuel economy was rated G !!!
What is a better tyre to fit in that price range ?
The tracking needs doing, is that a particular machine the Hunter that is required ?

Thanks

Tyres are always down to personal favourites and price, but I like Hankooks, do not use Kwit fix,go to a independent, they can get every tyre cheaper and do the job correctly, and yes the Hunter is needed, you could get the tyres and 4 wheel alighnment done by the same company 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

Pirell Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico I think they are better then the conti's. They are fitting these now standard to New Range Rovers.

Looks like these ones

http://www.valuetyres.co.uk/tyre/brand/pir...XL/id/5900

Same price as the Continentals which seem to have poor reviews and also Kwik fit were quoting 255 quid for and it seems most places will do them for 155 delivered, crazy.

So Hanooks or Pirelli seems the choice then ?

Mainly road/motorway usage for the car, no off roading and snow is a problem when it hits but only lasts a few days.

I assume the Sunnys on it are cheap tyres and not worth purchasing. Other motor - Gran Turismo S 4.7 MC Shift
