I've been advised by a land rover specialist by me that the detachable tow bars are not very good? And that they have heard of trailers coming un attached from the tow ball?? They surgest a perminantly fixed tow bar which I don't really want as I only tow from time to time and don't want a ugly tow bar on show. So can anybody offer any opinions on the topic thanks

There have been a very small number of issues with the tow bar. Land Rover have now decided to do something about it and are checking tow bar sockets. If they are worn then they're offering to fit a permanent bar I believe.

If yours doesn't rattle about at all when it's in place then you're probably ok - especially if you only tow occasionally.

Alternatively you could look at something like the system provided by Tow-Trust. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
