Ok, the next numpty question.......

I've just tried to insert my new (2nd hand but new to me) detachable towbar into the receiver but, even with the green handle turned fully, the locking pin doesn't seem to retract far enough to allow the bar to fully enter the receiver.

I'm going to try a wire brush & WD40 on the bar & receiver but am I missing something else?

After fitting the electrics today I thought this would have been easy!

It's sorted! A clean up with emery cloth & WD40 got it moving again.

Basically dirt had prevented me from pulling the green handle away from the body of the towbar far enough to allow its full rotation. The red collar exposed when fully pulled out is about 5-6mm whereas I only got around 2-3mm previously. Current: Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey

Make sure that now you've used wd40 to clean off all the crud, that you use some grease to make sure it keeps moving. Otherwise you will have the same problem when trying to get it off again. It's a lot harder to get it off than put it on if it's gunked up. Bodsys Brake Bible
