Hi, at 105k the belts have had plenty of use so best to play it safe, also belts go brittle and hard after 7 years so as I said , best to play it safe. I had one break years ago on a Volvo and it cost lots of ££££s to put right, I took the gamble and lost Just to add I had both belts done last service on mine, no more gambling 2007, HSE, Cairnes Blue, Factory tints, Love it !!! |

The key phrase is "whichever is sooner". If it does 1k miles a year then you change it at 7 years old. If it does 20k miles a year then you'd change it at 105k miles. It's not a difficult concept. The issue is that the belt will age and deteriorate over time even if not being driven. Indeed, one might argue that being left in one place on the pulleys for months at a time might be pretty bad for its long term flexibility too. It's hugely important to do this as a failed cambelt means a new engine. A few hundred pounds vs several thousand pounds. You choose. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

If you do buy it get them to knock the cost of the belt service off and get it done yourself, at least you know its been done then |

Yes, it needs doing. Be worth using it as a bargaining tool to get the price down. Also figure on getting the auxiliaries belt done too. To be honest, if they don't know what they're talking about on this sort of key service item then I'd be looking elsewhere. Or do a lot of research and go in with a list of things that get the price down. They'll probably tell you to go away and just sell it someone less informed than you. There are lots of RRS out there. Take your time. Bear in mind that vehicles that are now 8-10 years old are now in the realms of people buying them that can't afford to run them properly. Missed services etc. are ticking time bombs on a vehicle that can be temperamental at times. If the previous owner didn't get the belts done - presumably to save money - then they probably didn't do other important stuff either. Walk away and find one that has been loved - not just polished, but properly looked after. You want to see evidence of what has been done. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Thats nice low milleage for that year. Also belts should have been changed. I am near you and recently purchased a 2006 TDV6. The cambelt had been done so the sales man said however they had no receipt in paperwork for this so I got them to knock £500 off. Then I took it to Weston Autocentre in Cannock by me as they've done a few RRS cambelt services. They did all the belts for me including the fuel pump at the back which most places talk you out of and they did a major service. It all came to £700 and well worth it for piece of mind, the stamp and the reciept. I'm not Fat. RRS TDV6 HST. |

If I was buying that one I'd want at least £500 knocked off for belts. Don't forget there are 3 belts, the cambelt (the big one), Aux belt and the fuel pump belt (the hard one to change which most garages don't want to do).
