warrantywise?

my plan is to swap for a MY10 come September mainly because the manufacturers warranty finishes, but if I didn't, I can get what seems to be a very comprehensive warranty from these guys for a 57 plate TDV8:

All Mechanical, All Electrical and All Electronic Parts Covered
Failure Due To Wear and Tear
Policy Additions:
Air Bag System
Air Conditioning
Catalytic Converter
MOT Failure
Key & Lock Protection
Multimedia
Incorrect Fuelling
Tyre Insurance

Excess £100, max single claim £5000 (unlimited # up to £32,000)

£1,050 for 1 year
£1,608 for 2 years
£2,168 for 3 years

or without those optional additions

£706 for 1 year
£1,131 for 2 years
£1,557 for 3 years

I think those prices are very reasonable - am I in the minority?

Has anyone had any experience with them? Quentin Wilson's mug on the website, not sure if that's a good thing....

Warranty companies will promise you the earth, but until you have to claim you won't know just how good they really are, obviously it helps if you stand your ground and don't let them bullshit you.
Looked into quite a few recently to cover my X5, and managed to get a really good deal with warranty direct, have already had a pretty good qoute from them for my up and coming RRS.
Email Sam at, SamG@warrantydirect.co.uk and ask about the luxury care cover, it's very comprehensive, covers wear and tear items as well, let him know that you got his details from the X5 site, tell him exactly what you are looking for, he should be able to sort out a decent package for you.

You could also contact the forum sponsor Kam100 who specialises in this sort of warranty. He is listed in the Finance section and the site sponsors page 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced

Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

If I remember correctly Kam100 couldn't get a really good deal on the V8, and there was a low limit on claims, warranty direct will allow claims up to the value of vehicle.

From personal experience I would never venture from the dealer warranty, its just not worth it to save a few hundred quid Wink

Is the dealer warranty an "in house" warranty or underwritten by a third party, ( like most warranties ).

steve2026, that's exactly my point.. this warrantywise one DOES cover wear and tear, and then takes it a step further with cover for things like punctures, broken wheels, misfuelling etc

the price just seems exceptionally good!

what did you pay for the X5?

As said earlier, drop sam a line at the email I gave in previous post, ask about what's covered and not covered on the luxury care package.

looked into it but got put off by the parts list, warrantywise doesn't have any list fullstop. The warranty direct LuxuryCare policy EXCLUDES

BODYWORK
All bodywork, trim, upholstery, glass, paint, sunroof components, panels, wheels and tyres.

BRAKES
Brake discs and drums, brake pads and shoes.

CLUTCH
Clutch centre/friction plate, cover plate and release bearing.

CONTAMINATED FUEL
The cleaning or unblocking of fuel lines, filters, carburettors, pumps, metering units or idle speed control valves.

ELECTRICS
Lamps, batteries, fuses, and connectors, in-car audio and entertainment systems or navigational systems.

ALARMS AND IMMOBILISERS
Not fitted by the vehicle manufacturer as original specification.

SERVICE ITEMS
Including but not limited to:- Distributor cap, rotor arm, condenser, points, high tension leads, spark plugs, wiper blades, filter elements, bulbs, belts, antifreeze, fluids, grease, fuel or oils.

MISCELLANEOUS
Exhaust gasket, exhaust pipes, catalytic converter, auxiliary drive belts, brackets, mountings, pipes and hoses, water ingress, cables other than clutch cables.

OIL LEAKS
Notwithstanding exclusion 11 of the policy, this covers the cylinder head gasket and seal or gasket replacement that necessitates the removal of the engine, gearbox/drive unit or differential unit to carry out repairs.

CASINGS
Casings are covered provided they have been damaged as a result of failure of an insured part or by the consequential damage of an insured part failing.

SUNDRIES
Sundries such as coolants, lubricants, fluids, oils, filters and other working materials are covered if their replacement is necessitated due to a valid claim, provided the vehicle is not within 1,000 miles of its next service.

Only the components originally fitted as standard by the manufacturer are covered unless agreed in writing by us.

The only real ones of concern being:
- in-car audio and entertainment systems or navigational systems
- wheels and tyres
- Clutch centre/friction plate, cover plate and release bearing
- Exhaust gasket, exhaust pipes, catalytic converter

and the warranty direct MajorCare Policy cover INCLUDES the ones on this list:
ENGINE
Cylinder head
Cylinder head gasket
Valves (excluding decarbonisation, burnt or pitted valves and valve seats)
Valve springs
Valve guides
Camshaft and bearings
Cam followers
Hydraulic lifters
Push rods and rocker gear
Timing gears
Chains
Belts and tensioners
Pistons
Piston rings
Cylinder liners and linear seals
Connecting rods and bearings
Gudgeon pins
Crankshaft and bearings
Oil pump and oil pump drive
Distributor drive gear
Distributor drive
Flywheel and ring gear
Flex plate/auto drive plate
Inlet and exhaust manifolds

TURBOCHARGER
Internal failure of factory fitted turbocharger and wastegate.

GEAR BOX: MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC
Gears
Shafts
Synchromesh hubs rings and selector shafts and forks
Extension shaft
Torque convertor
Automatic transmission clutches and brake bands
Oil pump
Bearings and bushes
Valves and valve block
Governor and servo.

TRANSMISSION
Crown wheel and pinion
Differential gears and bearings
Bushes
Half shaft and half shaft bearings
Driveshafts
Bearings and constant velocity joints
Propshaft universal joints and centre bearing hubs and wheel bearings.

Only the components originally fitted as standard by the manufacturer are covered unless agreed in writing by us.

Which raises many questions not least the air suspension and the 4x4 system?

LuxuryCare was £835 for one year
MajorCare was £552 for one year

Couldn't get prices for longer but assume you can pay monthly for as long as you want?

Both warrantywise and warranty direct get mixed reviews, skewed to the positive, on Ciao:

http://www.ciao.co.uk/Reviews/warrantydirect_co_uk__5324754
http://www.ciao.co.uk/Reviews/Warranty_Wise__6233392

I want something that is going to come very close to replicating the manufacturers cover, currently I think WW pips WD and things like puncture cover, alloy wheel cover, air con and sat nav cover all add to the appeal. Plus, and its a big plus, if ever things turned sour then there is a human being to vent to, that be Quentin Wilson and his agent........

as you guys know there are all great when they want your money, just had a really bad experience with one of these extended warranty companies had a "five stat policy" there wording
then i had a problem with my turbo and what did i get a "five star shafting" everything is in the wording and the way its interpreted . i cannot say too much i.e the name of the company as i am going down the legal route

think long and hard about taking a warranty out ,i paid £650 not worth the paper its written on and i did have wear and tear included

but all i got was wear and quite a few tears 2010 tdv6 range rover sport black, ivory leather

Hi Gents

I can recommend Warranty Direct - They have just paid out on one of my EGR valves and a noisy wheel bearing - no quibble and had work done by my local Land Rover dealership. Thought they may try to exclude the EGR valve on the grounds that it failed due to carbon build up but took the word of the dealer and paid up without asking for any photographic proof Very Happy

Regards

Cannon - Fodder
