Removing alternator on a 2006 4.2 supercharged

Hi all,
Just recently purchased a 2006 RRS 4.2 V8 supercharged. I have my first problem so joined this forum hoping to get some help/advice. It went into some sort of limp home mode with all warning lights flashing and wouldn't re-start as battery seemed flat. I put a boost pack on and it started straight away. Because no red charge light had appeared, I just replaced the battery. All was well for a couple of days but now the red charge light is on and in the limp home mode again. I am on the look out for a new alternator and would like to attempt to change it myself but although I have searched and found several posts on changing the alternator, I don't think that they are relevant to my specific year/model. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to the right instructions/posts please?

Many thanks in advance,

Gary.

Hi, welcome to the mad house.

Perhaps these pages below will help?

If you click on the site sponsors link in the website banner, look for Advanced Factors and give them a call (ask for Steve) who is the boss and I expect he can do you an unbeatable deal and quick delivery on a quality OEM quality replacement unit.

OK I was expecting that. Your SC may have some differences but I believe belt removal is similar on all engine types. You need to remove the fan cowling and then the viscous fan then de-tension the belt to get it off.

Here is a link to thread on the Disco 3 site with pictures.

Some owners report difficulty undoing the viscous fan. I think Advanced Factors can sell you the special spanners to make it easier.

Hope it goes OK. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Hi Gary, replaced my alternator recently (2006 SC), belt looked ok so didn't change it, in this case you can do without removing fan etc. all you need to do is remove engine under tray, side cover hiding alternator and top part of fan cowling. you then from underneath use a long 1/2" drive breaker bar fitted with a 3/8" reducer to fit the belt tensioner, give just enough slack on the belt to slip it off the alternator pulley and try to keep the rest of the belt run in place on the other pulleys. when refitting just ensure the belt is located correctly in all of the vees.
cheers,
Tony.

Gary, yes its a press to release and pull, might help if you release the alternator and drop it down to give better access, this really helps with the earth connection.
