Hi Gary, replaced my alternator recently (2006 SC), belt looked ok so didn't change it, in this case you can do without removing fan etc. all you need to do is remove engine under tray, side cover hiding alternator and top part of fan cowling. you then from underneath use a long 1/2" drive breaker bar fitted with a 3/8" reducer to fit the belt tensioner, give just enough slack on the belt to slip it off the alternator pulley and try to keep the rest of the belt run in place on the other pulleys. when refitting just ensure the belt is located correctly in all of the vees.

Thank you for all your help! Just in middle of doing it now but have come up against a slight embarrassing problem! After all the lost blood and skin, I am stuck on getting multiplug from back of alternator! Cannot figure out what to press and what to pull! Help please!!!

Gary, yes its a press to release and pull, might help if you release the alternator and drop it down to give better access, this really helps with the earth connection.

I've got a alternator on the way from the good people at advanced motors , is this quite straight forward, will I need any specialist tools
