2009 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black
Got a whining noise :(

Just got back from the motorcycle live show and noticed on the way there a slight whine coming from the car.
If I slip it into neutral it's still there so wondering wether it's a wheel bearing or one of the diff's.
It got progressively louder on the way home too. Getting worried now. Can't do anything until tomorrow.

Any obvious things to look for.

Is the ARC bar actuator actually dripping fluid or is it just moist where the bar exits the actuator? Moist is normal; dripping is time for a new unit and they are Censored ing expensive.

Can't help with the transfer box but our resident expert from North of the border recently commented that failure to change the oil at the correct interval can cause bearing failure (and presumably a leak here could cause the same).

Good luck with getting it sorted. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

The arc is just residual oil leak. Probably swaps out thank god.

Had a good chat to an expert and looks like it's the rear bearing from the transfer box to rear prop. So need to undo the prop from the box and see if it's that. If it is then you can get a bearing kit from Landrover. If it's not that it's hands in deep pocket time Sad. Newbie near Chorley.

Got to the route of the noise.

Rear bearing on output shaft to rear prop. Smashed. Luckily the fragments were stuck to the magnet.
Quite chuffed realy. Saved myself a few bob doing it myself Smile Newbie near Chorley.
