2010 v 2012

Following on from my previous thread about a 2012 v 2014, I went into my local Dealer today to have a look at a 2012 Sport, and I liked it.

http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic37967.html

However, the salesman told me theres hardly any difference between the 2010 and 2012, apart from the split vs 1 piece tailgate, and a few small cosmetic chances like a gloss black front grill. Apparently Australia never got the 8 speed Auto Gearbox as well.

So my 2 questions are:-

1. I guess if I'm not too bothered about having a 1 piece tailgate, better infotainment system and TFT Screen I'm better off going for a 2010/2011 due to price? I would however happily spend more and get a 2012 if I can see the justification.

2. Is there any difference at all in the interiors between the 2010 and 2012? At first I thought there was but the salesman has told me they are identical, so maybe I was just perceiving the interior to be better on a 2012 as it is newer

I know a 2010/2011 would mean I won't have the option of an SDV6 and would have to settle for a TDV6, but that doesn't bother me as thats nothing a remap can't solve in terms of the power difference

Thanks in advance

I've not driven an 8 speed box, but going on what has been said in other posts, it is a fair bit smoother. I think that will be all down to the gearbox rather than the SD v the TD (10hp increase?) so not much point in getting a 2012 based on that, unless you want a lower mileage car. the interiors were identicle, so really it comes down to whether you want the handy split tailgate or the electric one piece. I much prefer the split gate myself.

Gear selector is different too I believe. From a gear stick (2010) to a turn knob (2012). LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

The knob never came to Oz, I think the Knob is 8 speed and the conventional shifter is 6 speed? Confirmed, Oz never got the 8 speed tranny. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

I traded up from MY10 to MY13 which is basically same as MY12 Thumbs Up

Things I've noticed - ride improved greatly and no longer have knocking noise from suspension, bluetooth streaming of music from phone is nice feature but miss the ability to choose genre/album/artist (only works with apple), sat nav/touchscreen updated, seats/headrests updated, fuel economy about 10% up solo but worse towing Confused

This is a good read highlighting main changes http://newsroom.jaguarlandrover.com/en-in/...it_060711/ Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

Thanks for the replies.

Firstly, I'm still confused as to whether the interiors are the same or not. The Link to the press kit states revised interiors and other people say they're identical. Is it just the seats/headrests that are updated?

Secondly, the smoother ride in your 13 muddywheels, I wonder if tuts purely down to the car being newer rather than a design feature.

I'm really wondering if (in my case) a 12 would be worth it considering no 8 speed here in Oz

Thanks again

Jkay - mine has dynamic function which may have have something to do with it. However I bought the MY10 ex-demo and ride/knocking suspension was an issue from day 1 so based on that I feel the MY12/13 is improved Thumbs Up

As you are in Oz I wouldn't like to base decision on improvements here - if they didn't fit the 8 speed box there may be other differences Confused Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

There are certainly a few on the road here. Just had an encounter with one the other day, mullet and all

Muddy wheels thanks. Just one last question for you, apart from the knob vs shift lever, were in interiors in your 2010 v 2013 identical?

Cheers
