United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Stornoway Grey
purchase advice please

Hi all.

Wouldn't mind a bit of advice on this motor if any of you have got time.
I went and had a quick look today as its only down the road from my work but was raining. Ill go and have another look tomorrow if its dry. Pictures dont to it justice. The inside is spotless and could only see a couple of marks on the rear lights but again it was wet out.

Also no mention of warrenty tax etc in advert

I did have my heart seat on a bonnati or stornaway grey(whichever is the darker grey) hst but this has popped up down the road and with only 26000 on the clock.

Is it worth the money for the millage as i felt lower millage is a better buy and maybe getting some hst bumpers if I can find them.

Also do any of you know the vehicle

Warranty is mentioned near the bottom of the ad, max £2000 per claim, nowhere near enough for a sport.
That aside, nice looking car, you're obviously not too bothered about mpg Mr. Green 2015 Golf R DSG

It looks great but you should definitely get a good warranty and the new tax rules mean you have to get your own road tax.

Tax will be in the maximum bracket and it won't include any. The new rules that came in on october 1st means you must tax it the moment you purchase it if you want to use it on the road, any existing tax will be refunded back to the previous owner automatically as soon as the V5 is processed by the DVLA.

Tax is around £500 a year but the new system allows you to pay monthly for an additional 5%, or so I've read, others may confirm or correct. 2015 Golf R DSG

Not worried about the mpg as its only going to do about 3000 a year and have been advised by others on here to get petrol as the short distance drives would ruin a diesel.
I never knew that about the tax. Thats another 500 on top then which ill have to try and knock off.
I did see that crap bit at the bottom about the 2000 max per claim Laughing . Going to go and find out if that comes with it anyway as a start and an mot.
I have had warrenty direct quote me 867 which they knocked down to about 780 on the phone. Still expensive I thought.

Is 20000 a fair asking price for the vehicle as im sure they expect to be haggled? What sort of figure should I be aiming to pay?

Thanks again

Doesn't seem too bad a price as it is considering milage but there's always a deal to be done.

Apart from the early cars all will be £500 to tax so I doubt they will throw that in for you.

Ill see what I can negotiate. The rear lights could do with replacing as they are marked. It seems as if something has took the shine out of the at the top. They have both gone dull and milky as if thinners has eaten the plastic if you know what I mean. I also noticed a couple of marks on the front bumber but it was like swirl scratches from washing so nothing major. Ill have a good going over it tomorrow hopefully.
I could try and get 6months tax thrown in.

Does anyone have a link to a checklist of things to look out for so I can print it off and take it with me as ill tend to say" it looks lovely, ill take it". Im sure I saw something a few weeks ago on here but cant find anything now

Cheers

That's cheap. You obviously don't realise how much these things cost to repair when they go wrong. For example, a new dynamic anti-roll bar (that vehicle has two) costs at least a grand to replace. Alternator or starter motor? That'll be £4-500. A compressor? £500+. Front lower arms? £300-400 each fitted although they can be done for half that by an indie but probably won't be covered by a warranty anyway.

If the vehicle doesn't have a perfect service history then walk away. No, really, if there's even the smallest suggestion that it's less than perfect then walk away. There are lost of RRS out there - wait and buy carefully. You don't need to buy the first one you see - there are lots around. Take your time and argue for every penny. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I have to agree with RRSTDV8, I bought my 2007 TDV8 just a few weeks ago, full service history, before I had it the dealer replaced discs and pads, some turbo work, new Timing chain manifold gasket and a host of other jobs, 3 days later my PAS Pump was making a slight noise took it to my local indie, New PAS Pump, front & rear ARC bars upper and lower arms both sides, and some additional work I'm into £4k and only driven 1,000 Miles, take into account that was full main dealer service history until the last service which was 3,000 Miles ago, the owner moved to Far east to work so it had sat around for a few months, but still not cheap to fix. Warranty Direct after hearing reviews on here I'm buying one next week, they pay out but not on everything.

To be frank if you think £780 is a bit expensive maybe you should look at the repair costs that come with these cars, and I don't think £2k in cover will go very far. A lot of things require a body split to do. see below, thats my car this week

Just looking at Mark1505's picture of his RRS split in two is enough to tell me that I will/should never run my RRS (when I collect next week) without a very good comprehensive warranty. That is a very compelling photograph! Range Rover - 4.4SDV8 Autobiography - Corris and Black

I diidnt realise some of the main repair issues. I was more worried about 3.6 turbos so overlooked everything else.

I have had a look at a few and they were far from immaculate. Ive been looking for about 6 weeks now.

Bloody hell. 4k repair bill after a few weeks. Surely this should be covered by the dealer you purchased from and not come out of your pocket under some sort of trading act.

I will be getting a warrenty and I believe from looking over other posts warrenty dirrect is the way to go, but I just thought it was expensive for the mileage. Allways room to haggle I guess. Reports I read were that some people were getting round the 550 mark for higher millage and similar age. If thats what I have to pay then so be it.

I would be happy for the dealer to throw in there warrenty and then WD will cover from day one

If think the warranty prices, certainly with warranty direct, are similar regardless of age as once it gets over a certain age they only cover a percentage of the parts cost. Mine is 9 years old and they only pay 60% of the parts. 100% of the labour though. When it's over 9 years old that reduces to 50%.

That's a really nice looking car- fantastic mileage. And I like the fact that it's been properly serviced every- many low mileage ones aren't. Good luck mate

WD will pay 70% for the year which isn't to bad I guess. I'm going to wait for another phone call from them and still say it's to expensive to try and get it down a bit more. They told me it comes with breakdown cover for getting to a garage and hotel accommodation etc but I have that anyway so will see if they can knock that off.

The service was a plus at that millage but will still check. It could be the way it's worded and actu ally only had the services at the required millage not years but unlikely.

Ooh I'm so excited Laughing it's the first for me
