Hi guys

I've had my rear brake pads and discs replaced by a recommended independent. Unfortunately the rear brakes subsequently (straight after) developed a high pitched squeak which was painfully evident every time we used the brakes whilst reversing

After a few back and forths and no solution I have taken it today to my local dealer (Lancaster Burnham). After taking a look they told me that non-genuine pads and discs have been used. They are branded "Ferodo" which the dealer had never heard of.

After reverting to the Indy who "only uses genuine parts" he tells me Ferodo manufacture the pads for Land Rover and the parts are identical, just 1 is branded Ferodo and 1 Land Rover. He also tells me that the boxes that the Land Rover ones come in will say Ferodo somewhere on the label

Anyone got any info to shed light on what's being said?

And half the price of LR brake pads

Dealer never heard of Ferodo

They are either taking the p!ss big time or proving that their knowledge base is sh!t and should be avoided at all costs.

The problem with talking to some service desk people is that they actually do not know anything about the vehicles at all. They're trained to take bookings and payments and that's about it.

Having said that, anyone who has been anywhere near cars for a year or two must have heard of one of the major component manufacturers...it's a bit like a Peugeot dealer saying he's never heard of Valeo! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It's both the technician who stripped the wheels down and the service desk guy who seemingly haven't heard. I guess you wouldn't when you want £500 to change them all over...

That said they are still squeaking. A couple of people have suggested possibly a problem with the caliper. It is weird though that it only started after the Indy replaced the discs and pads

Squealing is usually caused by the pad moving about in the caliper. This can be exaggerated if the pad compound is a little harder than standard.

The use of adhesive buffers, copper ease or anti squeal paste on the back of the pad usually eliminates the problem

Agreed. Remove the pads, roughen them again on some coarse grade wet or dry paper, coat the back with a liberal coating of copper grease where it contacts the piston and all will be well...

Spoke again with the dealer this morning who now accepts that the Ferodos are genuine parts.

He however now tells me that the LR015519 pads are not the correct ones for my car (59 plate Sport) and that they are for older models. He says I need the LR055455 which are for newer models

Everything I can find online tells me the opposite. I also rang up http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/ who also disagreed saying the LR015519 are for sports from late 2009-2013

Can anyone else confirm which are the right pads?
