If the removable part has been in the socket for some time then it may well be seized. It's not unusual. There have been a number of threads about it and quite a few suggestions about how to free the bar. I think a good smack is one of the options but not sure how successful it is. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Also - I think you need to pull out - to the right (as you look at it) then twist to unlock. They are prone to needing persuasion though....

Mine got 'stuck' so to speak, and I tapped it side to side with a nylon headed hammer.
