car wont start

the cars sat for a few days and when i went to turn it over it cranked very weak before giving up now i turn the key the dash lights up and everything goes off, if it dosent go off when i turn the key all i get is a really fast clicking i presume from the relay, the battery has 11.6 volts across it which i know is below 12 but its not ridiculously low
any ideas what my problem is?
cheers.

Edit: 07 rrs tdv6

Sounds like the starter motor has died. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

cheers for the replies, i hope it isnt the starter the cars costing me enough in repairs as it is!
i had the same thing happen on an old car and it was a bad connection with the earth on the starter
from past experiences flat battery gives one click, bad connection gives a fast clicking but i might be wrong
think ill try jumping it.

got the battery out to charge it and discovered the positive battery clamp is loose, whats going on with the design using a male/female cone to nip the terminal, what was ever wrong with a pinch bolt?
the cone has worn and no longer sufficiently clamps the connector to the terminal.
hoping after a charge and sorting this connector itll be fine

A simple knackered connection would be a good outcome! Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Update: Charged the battery and managed to get the connectors to nip tighter on the terminals, works fine now
im presuming the battery lost a bit of charge where it had been sat for a bit and the loose connections didnt help matters, still think the clamp design is a bit of a poor idea.

The 'cone' design is useless from the point of keeping it tight but they do provide a bigger surface area so they're better for conducting high current.
