Talking to lots of people these turbos 1 side more than the other in a sport for some reason go without any warning regularly.
Warranty direct are in dealings with garage at moment but no confirmation but will let everyone no.
This car has has proper full service all it's life so it could be you next !

Crazy you can buy a 10k new car and get 100000 miles no problem by a Range Rover 65k car it knackers after 70000 miles just quality Big Cry

My service invoices have shown engine flush every time for the last three years. Both turbos went last month...

The oil system for the TDV8's turbos is different to that of the V6 versions.

Quote:
Turbocharger Oil Return
Due to the wide range of inclines the vehicle operates across, the geometry of the oil pan has been configured to guarantee oil
pick-up across all operating angles. Land Rover have developed an oil-scavenge system to guarantee excellent oil flow through
the turbochargers on severe side-slopes. Whilst the 60-degree cylinder bank angle of a V6 engine allows the turbochargers to be
packaged relatively higher in the vehicle,to obtain the best configuration for the V8 engine, the turbochargers must be sited
much lower. At extreme angles, there is a risk they may be below the oil level on the oil pan, restricting oil return flow. To
overcome this, the engine uses a rotor pump located on the front of the vacuumpump, to help draw oil back from the
turbochargers to guarantee good flow across the full range of operating angles.

I wonder if the oil scavenger pump is marginal and so leads to the oil not been cleared from the turbos correctly...if so, the oil might be getting cooked in the return pipe reducing (and then blocking) its bore and flow leading to failing of oil seals and thus turbos. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It's not about pumps or oil pick up, and milage is not a factor in failures. Mine only had 8k on the clock the first time, 48k the terminal time and had a full dealer service history having been serviced three months and 3000 miles prior to failure.
What it seems is that the turbos particularly the left hand, has the ability to blow the seal out the compressor side which is a design failure possibly but is particular to Sport only, Fullfat barges don't fail apparently. Interesting that when looking for warrantee, the Sport was the most claimed against vehicle, followed by M3. Fulfat with the same engine doesn't figure and although I hate it, has been far more reliable than Sport and been for a service since purchase only. Not something I could claim with Sport. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Got both turbos off a TDV8 FFRR just now.

Seals gone in the RH turbo, and seized bearings in the LH turbo...

I wonder if it may be related to the driver not allowing the car to warm up/cool down correctly. Not in every case, I'm sure, but would be interesting to know

Was always careful letting mine warm up and cool down, always let it idle for 30 secs before switch off regardless of tiddling in traffic or spirited drive. Mine failed after being parked up for periods of time on each occasion so valid question. There are two trains of thought in mechanic circles, some say idling does more damage than not blah blah blah. In the case of a racing engine that is over fueling fair enough.
There seems to be no pattern or any othe item failing causing this but in my case LR refused to provide any info about the failure so we will never know. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Whoa happy days. What a relief for you. Thumbs Up

I am at the start of a 3 year warranty with WD for MY10 3.0 v6 HSE, and this has eased my concerns for the future somewhat.
