Took my car to the garage the other day and as soon as he heard it he said it sounds like a failed inlet valve letting compression through. Scanned the car and it came back with EGR fault on the left hand bank so thought it would be that, so i blanked the EGR's but no difference and i didnt even get a warning light even though its an 07, does this unfortunately mean the heads going to be coming off or could it be something else?

Edit: car also struggles to start and get a canny amount of white smoke until engine gets upto operating temp
