Dealer "Lost" V5 Logbook

Guys, i collected my car on the 30th June from Lookers Battersea, Upon collection i was told they had "Lost" the V5 Logbook and that it wasn't a problem as they have applied for a new one on my behalf and it should arrive within 7-10 days.

Its now the 30th June and I've still not yet received it!

My last contact with the salesman via email was 24th July, he informed me "I have checked with my admin department and it is still in the process i will update you again by tomorrow afternoon"

Of course he never got back to me so i was hoping he was busy getting a move on and speeding things up, clearly not!

Any input/experiences of this sort of thing would be appreciated. Thumbs Up

Give the DVLA a call and see what they say, they should at least be able to tell you if a new one has been applied for or where it is in the system. It can take them 6 weeks or so to turn things around particularly in the summer as they have less staff due to holidays.

Just gave the DVLA a quick call….the helpful automated service informed me i should call back after 6 weeks!

Because of this dealer Censored up I've had to extend the retention on my personalised plate also as i had no part of the V5 to be able to assign it to the car.

Really does annoy me that when your looking to buy a car or need to tax, insure or anything to do with your own money everyone is on your case daily, as soon as they have got that communication is dead or a 6 week wait for any information!

Send the bill to Lookers, I'm sure it wasn't £1000 run about you bought. They really shouldn't have given you the car without the paperwork, a call to dealer principal should see all your costs refunded and a free service, maybe a nice bunch of flowers sent to the Mrs too as I would have been ranting a bit by now Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Agree They Should have NOT sold you the car without the paperwork of some description, a call to dealer principal as suggested is a good idea.

Ignore the 6 week thing just play ignorant and say you thought it had been 6 weeks, they won't mind.

It's frustrating but it does happen. When I bought mine I only had a copy of the previous v5 as the previous owner sent it away for transferring the plate. I held money back from the dealer and it all worked out ok in the end, fingers crossed it does for you.

When I got the v5 through it was all in the previous owners name etc so I sent a covering letter stating I was the new owner and I wanted to apply my number plate to the car as well. I filled in the forms correctly and they managed to do everything ok.

It will be 6 weeks this Saturday since purchasing my latest Sport - still no V5 - it took 9 days from posting to receiving my Registration retention letter - so something seems to have gone wrong. Its now been 9 weeks, contacted the DVLA who have no record of any application to change owners nor any pending!

Ive sent 2 emails in the last week rather than go through the countless automated services to get through to the particular department, one to the dealership principal and one to the used car manger both with my particular salesman Cc'd into the emails!

Neither have received a response!

Personally i think its terrible service on their behalf! Thats Lookers Battersea!

I think a phone call to customer relations will be on my agenda tomorrow!
