diagnotics

Hi all
I want to go and check out a couple of vehicles, but am I legally allowed to take diagnostic equiptment with me. I have a scanner and fault code clearer which I purchased when having trouble with my van. It threw up codes which I looked up, rectified and cleared and problems were solved. Am I in my rights to take this to a dealer or private seller and check for codes before and after a test drive, and after purchasing use it as a tool for warrenty claims(I.e report all faults to warrenty company as they arrise and get them to sort it).

All help appreciated

Thanks

Jay

What you might find is the tool will only read a few error codes unless its for the Land Rover as most generic tools do not read much on LR ecu's

Flack Thumbs Up

Thanks for the reply. Apperntly the tool is fully compatible with the rrs but time will tell, I just need to find someone with the vehicle to test it first. It wasnt a cheap generic ebay job.
Would you know if I am within my rights to use it though, and if I am, but told im not should I just walk away.
I really wanted to use it as a bargaining tool and knock the price down

Thanks

Jay

Sorry flack, looked into it and I noticed like you said that unlikely to be fully compatible with everything which is what I want really. Trailing the forum and see gap do some, so will look into this as I am definatly getting the RRS.

It also seems you seem to have the faultmate so will look into this too as im a newbie

All I need to know now is can I use it Thumbs Up

If you came to my house and started plugging a "tool" into my cars system, how do I know you are not copying key codes and coming back later to steal it??? I don't think you have any rights to use it unless it's your car. I wouldn't Whistle MY 13 3.0 SDV6 HSE Black Edition

But if you took it for a test drive and stopped around the corner to plug it in, who's to know....?

The more user friendly one is the IID tool. Will also scan more than one vehicle if it's just fault codes you want. Bodsys Brake Bible

I never thought of it like that. I wouldn't want anyone doing that to my vehicle as a private seller if you can copy key codes. I suppose I could do it to a dealer though with the right equipment.

Ill have a look into the IID tool bodsy
