Keyless

Does anyone else like me think that keyless entry / start is an absolutely great feature? I know there are a lot of concerns about it regarding security, and I know that there are circumstances when it must be a sort of natural instinct to press the button on the remote, but to me the idea of keyless is you don't need to use the remote / key, like I do with my Evoque it just stays in my pocket, I pull the handle to open it or touch the handle to lock it. Forgive me if I'm wrong but I assume for someone to block / grab signals etc you would either have to press the remote or have a low life Censored standing pretty darn close, so I'm hoping that by keeping the key in my pocket I won't become another victim to this, what I can only imagine must be an absolute horrible thing to experience. Most vehicles nowadays people tend to press a button to lock/unlock so surely eliminating this by not having to do that must be better? I know this doesn't resolve the issue of accessing the brains of the vehicle to clone the key but other than breaking the window how would they gain access?
I hope I haven't upset anyone, believe me I would also be gutted to loose my prized possession and I really hope everything works out.

You are not the only one, i think it's a great feature. Thumbs Up

The one thing i didn't like on my previous 2007 RRS was using the Ford style blade key so I was glad to see the back of it when i got the 2012 RRS. 2014 L405 SDV8 RR Autobiography Cool

Me too.

I've been with a colleague who had managed to close the boot of her Evoque with the keys inside (apparently not possible) and spent 3 hours of my life watching a guy from JLR try and break in.

I don't like keyless entry/start. I had it on a previous vehicle (a Suzuki Swift Sport, so not exactly a luxury feature!). The Evoque I have as a loaner at the mo. has keyless too. I prefer putting the key in to the ignition and turning it. It takes the same time as reaching for a button to press.

Keyless is a gimmick and, it appears, rather insecure. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I don't think it is, correct me if I'm wrong but I think the security issue is, when the signal is blocked when the button is pressed to lock/unlock. My idea of keyless is the fob/key stays in your pocket thus no button is pressed, no signal is grabbed. ( find it hard to believe you wouldn't see a stranger standing in very close proximity ). As for being a gimmick, again I disagree, convenient yes, no more fumbling trying to find your key then having to find the ignition. It must quicker easier just to walk up to your vehical, pull the door handle, jump in and press a button? Non keyless vehicals most people press the remote to lock/unlock ( when is the last time you actually put the key in the lock? ), so would assume the signal blocking thing ain't new, the issue I think with keyless is when entry is gained, all they have to do is program another key. Rather than using a screwdriver as a key. Obviously cars are not really prone to the screwdriver method anymore due to immobilisers hence the rise in burglaries for keys. 2015 HSE SDV6 Scotia Grey, ebony / lunar, colour coded, deployable steps, TV, sliding pano and a few other bits. In a keyless locking situation, the key is transmitting but weakly; the car has to be able to verify that there is a valid key in the vicinity of the door being locked outside the car. This is to prevent the car locking when the key is still inside in your jacket. The key is listening all the time and the cars transmits to wake it up and the key responds "yes I am" and the car locks. The advantage of pressing the button on the door is that you are more likely to verify the car is actually locked compared to blipping the remote as you walk away.

I saw a technical briefing of the Mercedes Keyless-Go system and it's a lot more complex than you might think. Mark

Is it just me? If I use the remote to lock my van, I always have to either hear it lock, or on the very rare occasion at least see the indicators flash to signal that it's locked.
Even using the keyless on the car I always have to hear/see the same thing, plus you get the added bonus of the mirrors folding.
I would never just press the remote and just assume it's locked 2015 HSE SDV6 Scotia Grey, ebony / lunar, colour coded, deployable steps, TV, sliding pano and a few other bits. Now gone

I loved in on my BMW and I miss it now. I'm hoping that my next car will have it but the manufacturers need to get these security problems sorted sharpish.

I bought a steering wheel lock at the weekend as it seems that keyless car theft of all makes has increased substantially.

I wonder if the reason is because people still use the fob thus making access easier ? 2015 HSE SDV6 Scotia Grey, ebony / lunar, colour coded, deployable steps, TV, sliding pano and a few other bits. Now gone
