Having driven our RRS SDV6 for 6 months and 11500 km I still cannot get used to the slow response when pressing the accelerator. Compared to our other RRS TDV8, which instantly reacts when pressing the accelerator, the SdV6 seems to be sleeping and then after some time suddenly awakes. This causes problems trying to cross a busy road or entering a roundabout.
My wife refuses driving the "sleepy" new SDV6.The dealer says the car reacts as it should. Has anyone else got the same impression. Is the slow response due to the ZF 8 speed gearbox ?

Exactly the same with mine, been back to the dealer twice and " as it should be"
Have driven another on a dealer forecourt and have to admit, very similar with slow throttle response.
Disappointing but afraid seems to be the nature of the SDV6

Get it chipped that will stop it

I think the RRS2 starts in second gear most of the time.

Sport mode wakes it up as does the Dynamic mode in normal drive, then again more in sport.

Std drive is relaxed so that is the Range Rover side sorted. If you want sport change the mode.

My RRS1 does it too, and is beginning to pi55 me off. I am going to ask my dealer to sort it. If they can't/won't its getting remapped. To be fair to my dealer, i'm sure if there's a way of sorting it, they will.

The 'Sport always had the issue that when you coast or brake to an almost stop and then accelerate, as often happens at a roundabout for example, it sometimes does nothing and one finds themselves drifting into the path of any oncoming traffic. Possibly coincides with the gearbox finally going into 1st, which I think it does after a while being stationary/slow.

Solution - race up to the roundabout, slam on the anchors whilst looking right/left/right, then floor it. 

Yep same with mine (MY13) - it can be a bit disconcerting for the few seconds of hesitation while it decides to get itself going - especially when pulling out at junctions etc.

If a re-map can sort it I wonder why LR doesn't ?

Since its still under LR warranty I'm reluctant to mess with it at the moment.

Coincidentally, I test drove a RRS today and also found the throttle response tardy compared even to my lumbering L322 FFRR. However, the new RRS isn't the only vehicle that I've owned or driven which has this annoying trait. My previous Audi A8 was exactly the same, maybe even worse, and I developed technique of paddle shifting down to 1st gear before approaching roundabouts. A bit clunky but it worked. My wife's X3 has a similar issue and every Merc I've ever driven has been slow off the mark.
It seems to be characteristic of the 8 speed ZF gearbox that LR and so many other manufacturers use. As Disco says it is very reluctant to change down to 1st gear unless you're stationary. I'm not even sure that a remap will change anything. My FFRR has the same ZF 8speed box and remapping the engine had no effect on the gearbox behaviour. In my RRS test drive today, I did find the gearbox a bit more responsive in Sport mode

Thank you guys for your interesting replies! I think the ZF 8 speed gear box might be the cause. Our previous Disco 3 never appeared slow. Of course it had the old 6 speed gear box and the 2,7 liter TDV6. Perhaps someone at ZF can solve the problem. The agility of modern cars at low speed appears to have been sacrificed for emission values.

I have got the same problem with my11. Its been into the dealer lots of times and to an independent dealer and they all have said its normal.?

My MY12 was pretty useless off the mark...

It was horrific first thing in the morning in Winter....If I left it out overnight

It would barely move unless I gave it 30 seconds to warm up....

I'll know soon enough about MY2014.5, not looking good though 2014.5 SDV6 AB Dynamic ... Fuji /Santorini Pan roof and 22's
