I think the RRS2 starts in second gear most of the time.

My RRS1 does it too, and is beginning to pi55 me off. I am going to ask my dealer to sort it. If they can't/won't its getting remapped. To be fair to my dealer, i'm sure if there's a way of sorting it, they will. |

The 'Sport always had the issue that when you coast or brake to an almost stop and then accelerate, as often happens at a roundabout for example, it sometimes does nothing and one finds themselves drifting into the path of any oncoming traffic. Possibly coincides with the gearbox finally going into 1st, which I think it does after a while being stationary/slow.

Yep same with mine (MY13) - it can be a bit disconcerting for the few seconds of hesitation while it decides to get itself going - especially when pulling out at junctions etc.

Coincidentally, I test drove a RRS today and also found the throttle response tardy compared even to my lumbering L322 FFRR. However, the new RRS isn't the only vehicle that I've owned or driven which has this annoying trait. My previous Audi A8 was exactly the same, maybe even worse, and I developed technique of paddle shifting down to 1st gear before approaching roundabouts. A bit clunky but it worked. My wife's X3 has a similar issue and every Merc I've ever driven has been slow off the mark.

Thank you guys for your interesting replies! I think the ZF 8 speed gear box might be the cause. Our previous Disco 3 never appeared slow. Of course it had the old 6 speed gear box and the 2,7 liter TDV6. Perhaps someone at ZF can solve the problem. The agility of modern cars at low speed appears to have been sacrificed for emission values. |
