Preventive or primitive maintenance on RRS 2008/9 TDV8

Hello All,

Im new to the site and I am looking for help.

I have a second hand 2008/9 RRS TDV8 with 170k km on the clock and i now live in South Africa.
Lately I have had a transmission rebuild, one new shock, new compressor, 2x starter motors since I bought it. I love the vehicle and use it both daily and for adventures around Southern Africa with 2 x 10,000 km trips on the horizon.

So what I need help on is some ideas of preventive maintenance or bush upgrades, from the simple to necessary that will keep me going no mater what i come across.
Protection plates and custom wheels are on the list but they are useless if I come to a halt for something simple. Land Rover servicing here is useless so I will need to source the parts internationally and bring to a competent garage.

Thanks in advance,

The big one for the TDV8 engine is regular oil and filter changes and make sure BOTH sump bungs are removed when draining the oil !! 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Thanks.
I'm also looking for more obscure things that fail or wear out at high mileage.

That my friend is a question that cannot be answered, some cars break down on day one, some cars run for ever. 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

Anti Roll Bar bushes
Front lower wishbone bushes (change the wishbone, it's easier)
Track rod ends (change the whole track rod and thus do inner and outer ends in one go)
Rear toe links
Anti Roll Bar drop links
Differential oils (if the rear diff is the locking type then it uses different oil to the front diff, otherwise they're the same)
Transfer box oil
Transmission oil
Brake fluid 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

If they have not been done I would replace the two intercooler pipes on top of the engine, had one split and it was only a £37 part to replace, preventative replacement could avoid getting stuck somewhere, I tried a temporary patch but it lasted 2 minutes!

Also fuel filter if it has not been done lately, again something that can leave you stuck if it causes an issue. TDV8 Java Black, Overfinch 22s

Thanks Alex, I have a set of Silicone hoses ordered they are blue but what can you do.

RRSTDV8,
Thank you thats a nice list to work through, the transmission was done a month ago and all fluids in the vehicle replaced. Could you recommend an outlet that supplies them I can find Brit Part items that I can have delivered to SA but they don't get great reviews or just order from Land Rover?

For good quality replacements of lower arms and the like try site sponsor Advanced Motor Factors. I'd stick to Land Rover for fluids though (use Duckworth - another site sponsor).

How about replacing the auxiliary belt(s), filter for the ARC system and stripping and servicing the rear brakes including the EPB especially? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thanks Paddi,

I just got ECB pads and disks all round and a over hall of the transmission/valve unit with the ECU which I'm told controls the hand break due to it engaging on rutted roads.
For some reason Advanced Motor Factors won't open in South Africa but I will work on that.
This is where i show my stupidly what is the ARC system? and auxiliary belt(s) as in on the engine?
Excuse my ignorance i am an electrician by trade and while i was in Ireland I had a great mechanic and never had to ask now I need to learn about the mechanical.
I will order diff fluids from Land rover thanks.
