Left hand side of engine.
Disconnect battery
Remove cover, remove fan cover, remove fan(36mm, reverse thread)
Use socket to release tension from tensioner
Move belt out of the way

Remove three bolts underneath alternator
Undo electrics bolt and plug

Thanks you thats Sunday taken care of.!

My problem is a red charge warning light i think its the original lead acid battery which took nearly a litre of de-ionised water t top up. Im getting 12.4v engine of no electrical load 13.6v engine running no load. For the sake of £125 do you reckon its worth whacking in a new battery first ?

Nope. I reckon it's worth disconnecting the battery before the alternator takes the battery out. And not drive it Til you've got the replacement alternator. Bodsys Brake Bible

Hi

Problem solved thank for the help.

It needed a special tool to remove the fan from the boss, to enable you to unscrew the 36mm bolt.

However you can do it another way and save the £30 for the spanner and speacial tool

Its a two person job unless you an octopus !

Carry out as per above until you get to the fan removal take the cover and attached air pipe
Remove the large air hose that runs vertically from the front grille to the air box
Draw out on a sheet of paper the route of the serpentine belt
Using a 3/4 socket drive release the tension on the serpentine belt (check the belt condition mine was in need of replacement)
Remove the large air hose from that runs vertically from the front grille to the air box
Might as well pull out the air box too
Using a 13mm socket you can now gain access to three bolts that hold the alternator to the engine block.
Once removed you can unplug the control plug from the back of the alternator and unbolt the red sheathed power connection

Refit as above in reverse order
