Fitting Land Rover Dog Guard / Cargo Barrier

Hi,

I am thinking about sourcing one of these:

The question is, how easy is it to fit and remove as I do not want it in the car all the time?

Also, what actually secures it to the car?

Cheers
Jim

France 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

Hi I have a dog guard although not exactly the same.
It has two straps that go around the head rest bars, so the left & right rear head rests have to be raised.
It is very easy to remove and put back. I leave mine in all the time unless I am going shopping for something very large that needs the seats down.
Just one thing.....when you fit it and you put the little straps around the grate bars and then the head rest post, do it from inside the back seat NOT from the boot. God forbid you have a rear end crash with your dog in the car and you did the straps from inside the boot, as you may not be able to undo them and get your dog out.

Hi Jim

LR dog guard is very easy to fit & remove as required.

There are two floor mounted brackets which are secured by the bolts for the luggage tie brackets just behind the rear seats.

The guard itself is secured to these brackets by 'thumb' screws. These brackets are left in place - to remove the guard you simply unscrew the two thumb screws. There are then two flanges on either side of the guard which are clamped by the back of the rear seats against the inner trim.

Simples!

Hope this helps

Hi Ricksahaw,

Thanks for the reply, not sure I understand the bit about the rear seats.

I wanted to use in the same way as the photo, i.e. with the rear seats flat.

Is that not possible then?

Cheers

You don't need the seats up to hold guard in place. Bottom held to floor, tab either side pushes against seat locks and two arms push against back of door pillar trims. Sounds complicated but it isn't Rolling with laughter 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Hi Jim

Should be OK to use with seats flat ......? The bottom of the guard is held securely by the floor mounted brackets .

Normally the seats will 'clamp' the top of the guard against the trim panel where the seats lock on place.

If the seats are flat then theoretically I guess the guard could hinge/tilt forward but this is probably unlikely unless an unsecured load or big dog was thrown forward under braking !!!

No doubt the guard could be secured if necessary by some other means eg a strap/rope tied to back to the rear luggage brackets.

Richard

Jim

Please ignore my comment about the guard being able to tilt forward. I must have been having a 'senior' moment.
This is NOT the case - the guard is secured by two further brackets which slot into the tube at either side of the guard and rest against the trim/window surround in front of the rear windows. This stops the guard from tilting forward when the seats are down.
Apologies for any confusion!!
Richard
