RRS SPORT 2012

Hi Guys

I have just got a RRS. The TV picture and sound is perfect when stationary but when I travel the picture and sound are poor.

I have dual view, which should allow the passenger to watch and listen to TV, but it seems like a waste of money option when it doesn't work.

My car is going into the dealership shortly as they say it should not be like this. They have ordered a whole new set of antennas and will replace them to see if that helps.

Anyone else worked out what the problem could be?

Thanks Daryl Daryl

TV reception whilst moving is rubbish. Picture freezes, goes blocky, sound drops out.

Pretty standard stuff for trying to receive a digital signal on the move.

TV is really only of use whilst waiting outside of school/disco/cubs/brownies on "taxi" duties 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

Thanks

Thanks all of your for replying! Appreciated. What is the point of the dual view option if the TV isn't good on the go. I would argue that it should work when on the move! Also, how can the reception be poor, when I have a clear view of the sky, no tree or buildings etc. For example on the motorway it is the worst. Daryl

The dual view on the move is more for DVD playing.

The problem with the motorway is the speed combined with the fact that its a digital signal.

In the old analogue days you would just get a few white dots or lines across the screen as you move between patches of reception.

With a digital signal its a stream of data separated into blocks with check data added in. If any data is lost (noise), the check data can recreate it. However a point is reached where this is no longer possible and the picture/sound stops. This is particularly true if its the check data that is lost. This is why a digital signal take a second or two to display when its first turned on. Its got to receive a complete stream of data including the check data before it can synchronise and display a picture. This is somewhere in the region of 15 frames long, so you have to get 15 good frames before it can display a picture. 15 frames is over half a second. So you have to get half a second of clean signal to start picture display. So a minor level of noise corrupting the signal every half a second will result in not picture at all as no clean sequence will be received. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

Thank you for your responses.

I understand your point, coming from a technical angle, but why have a TV as an option if the passenger can't watch it properly. Is there any way to increase the signal strength?

When I drive long distances, that is when watching or listening to the TV is used the most.

Is there any way to change the way the TV waits for the full data of video and audio like analogue tv did, because then at least the picture and audio would be constant just with a few lines.

Thanks in advance.

Daz Daryl

No way to change it. The format of the digital signal is set by the transmission standards.

There is no way to do it with a basic system.

Very expensive systems have multiple receivers and diverse aerial systems and a computer to build a good picture from the bits of reception from each separate receiver and aerial. 2016 RRS 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Dynamic in Montalcino Red and Stealth Kit

On the same subject the guy I'm buying mine from says the previous owner had something fitted so the tv in the front stayed on when driving but the 2nd owner (the guy I'm buying from) had it removed as it kept draining the battery ! Would it have sucked that much ??? S, grey, all black int, s,steps, window tints, fridge, ff tv x 3.

Put it this way, I'm glad it was standard as if I'd paid hard cash for it, I'd have felt very short changed Sad (yes I know I did pay in a way but at least it wasn't an additional cost Wink ) as the signal is average at best in mine.

Has worked well on the odd occasion to keep my son amused when parked up somewhere/ in a traffic jam, but it's not something I would every pay out for now in the future. Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
