Buying advice

Hi all, my first post. For the past 20 years I've only ever owned various Lexus cars, my current a 400h. Over 8 cars and 20k miles a year I have only ever spent money on servicing with no repairs in between. Each car I've spent about £20k on and px'ed about 3 years 60k miles later. This time I want a change and always fancied a RRS.

I realise a Land Rover product not like a Lexus one and repairs/maintenance will be required in between normal services. My question is would it be better to buy the best £20k one I can find or say £15k on the best and £5k in reserve? I have never taken out an extended warranty once I've had a car for 12 months but do RRS owners recommend keeping a warranty going?

Seen a few on AT for sale at £20k will probably asking more questions soon when I go looking.

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Rimini Red

Welcome to the forum!

For £20k you'll get something that will have a comprehensive warranty and shouldn't really break much (land rover themselves have a couple of approved used tdv8 for that price). For15k you will find a perfectly serviceable rrs but you will need to know what you are doing to avoid extra cost.

You're correct that these are NOT as well built as Lexus, but as land rover goes are pretty good with most 'between service faults' being limited to the suspension knock etc. the tdv6 has two cam belts at 100k or 7 years. Budget £800 for them if they haven't been done!

Eg:

Range Rover Sport HSE DYnamic SDV6 Velocity blue 2020 MY
Range Rover sport HSE Dynamic P400e Silver
Range Rover Sport 3.0 SDV6 HSE Dynamic 2016 MY
Range Rover sport 3.6tdv8HSE 2007 Gone
Range Rover sport 2.7tdv6SE 2005 Gone
Range Rover sport 2.7tdv6SE 2007 honey
Range rover Vogue 2005 4.4 - GONE and missed
BMW 535d M sport 2006 - GONE not as missed
BMW X5 4.4 2004 sport - GONE

Thanks for the welcome.

That black one looks like the previous owner didn't know when to stop with the paint can! The 23k HST one looks good. Are the HST just different in the body kit? and do the 2.7's feel much slower than the 3.6's?

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

I have had several lexus cars in the past, the last one was the IS250, I bought a 2008 RRS sport TDV8 about 6 weeks ago paying 21k, the car came with a full dealer history and had most of the known problem faults already addressed,
I had a few issues which thankfully were all sorted by the dealer I bought it from without any problems but it did mean 4 visits back to the garage, I would suggest buying a decent warranty which covers for any unexpected problems.
Other than that I would say go for the V8 just for power and noise it produces.

Thanks simonk. Did you get it from a main dealer?

No got it from an Indy, he was a head technician for a range rover dealer who set up on his own doing service and repairs, he then started buying customers cars when they were upgrading to a new one.
I got from sheffield prestige based in sheffield
