I bought a RRS HSE 2007 in December from a reputable dealer (Morrison's in Stirling) with a year's warranty. It came with a full service and MOT with a few advisory comments which I was told were fixed. Apart from a few niggles, it's been great, but yesterday I happened to have the windows down and heard a low scraping noise when braking. Appears there's significant damage (scoring) to my rear near-side disk: the pads have worn completely.

A couple of questions:

Is there a brake pad alert that should have prompted me to check the pads?

Given that most warranties do not cover discs/pads, do I have any alternative other than to pay them (or someone else) to fix the problem?

Depending how many miles you've covered since Dec I'd expect that you should get the dealer to do the job under their duty of care to you as its within 6 months.

Hi there, welcome to the forum.

There is a brake pad sensor fitted to the offside rear caliper and one fitted to the nearside caliper on the front, so that will explain why you didn't get any warning. Simple fix to replace discs and pads, advisable to replace the brake pad sensor at the same time.

I'd be amazed if you got any joy with a wear and tear item after six months. What mileage have you put on the vehicle since December?

You will replace the discs in pairs along with the pads for both discs. You can only replace the sensor on the side they are fitted to. They don't have sensors on all four brakes.
