Update

Took my car in yesterday 8am ....for the following

1. Check suspension warning / Fault [ a previously repaired fault ]

2. Investigate knock/movement felt through steering column [ prev reported ]

3. Cure awfull rattle from behind driver seat - poss in B post or rear door ?

4. Refit securely/replace faulty 'A' post window trim which flew off on M6 at 80mph Evil or Very Mad

So it went in at 8am yesterday....... didn't get a call until 5pm ..... to give me an update..... yes you've guessed it..... had to order some parts and will need to keep it another day..... so still running around in a Freelander = YUK

I wait today with baited breath ...................................

Well what do you expect.................... it's not meant to exceed 70 mph on UK roads so you were not using it correctly! Mr. Green Mr. Green

There is a Tech bulletin about exterior trim parts falling off some cars BTW 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

No kidding Tim - when it happened it scared the living daylights out of me Embarassed It was a Sunday - in the outside lane going up the hill passed Corley services ...... when BANG/WHACK/SMACK/CRACK ... what the F*****g hell was that, when I finally realise whats happened as I see this flapping around the A post - lower the window and grab it.

CauseCause: Incorrect assembly of the front door exterior lower finisher, where the clip has not fully engaged in the door and/or separation of the 2-piece retaining clips, may result in partial detachment of the finisher from the door.

Service ProcedureService Procedure

Where a front door exterior lower finisher is partially/completely detached from the door but is not damaged, the finisher should not be renewed. The finisher should be removed (where necessary) and reinstalled with the retaining clips renewed according to this Technical Service Bulletin. This formation of clips will ensure retention while still allowing future removal of the finisher.
11 .
CAUTIONCAUTION: Protect the surrounding paintwork to avoid damage.

Releasing the fourteen retaining clips and remove the finisher.
22 . Remove and discard the fourteen clips.
33 . Renew the retaining clips:
11 . Install the four new clips (DYC500110) in the positions shown in the illustration (arrow indicates front of vehicle).
22 . Install new clips (DYC101420) in the remaining ten clip locations on the finisher.

44 . Install the finisher ensuring all fourteen clips engage correctly and are secure.

The trim that came off was the black trim that runs down the 'A' Post next to either side of your windscreen. see pic

Ha Ha..... Very Happy

Luckily it didnt completely detatch itself and was still fixed at its lowest point ( as it goes below bonnet level ) . As soon as it happened I opened my window and grabbed it holding it safe until able to stop.

I would recommend you all check yours for a solid secure fit. Do what I did to refit .... hit it from top to bottom with the side of your fist ... a good thumping always sorts things out Wink
