TDV8 Remaps

Hi all,

I don't think this has ever been talked about before Embarassed

So I was against mapping my tdv8 till I was on angels website and read about improving towing efficiency by 20% and the extra mid range would be nice.

SO I've seen BAS units for £519 for forum members then down to angel at £340 and others at a lower price, the benefit of the BAS can be argued that it can be sold on after you sell the car where as the loaded maps are on the car.

Ok so how did you decide which one to go for?

It would be very nice if we could have a few settings, wife setting, my setting and towing setting Rolling with laughter

PS I did use the search function but didn't really find why people who which one, they said they had recommendation from friends on some and others used BAS as it's a site sponsor or they are regarded as good.

Why not ask AWD Man? He previously had a BAS remap on your RRS.

Yeah I know and he loved it so he will say get the BAS one but suppose others will just say get what they got.

But my question is why did they pick which company. Was it purely on cost? Reputation? Performance stats?

I have owned a TDV8 RRS for over five years, and 55,000 miles. Used it to tow my twin axle caravan all around the UK, as well as it being a daily driver. It's even been up Santa Pod a few times too! (Look it up on YouTube)

I respect the fact that you don't necessarily want to follow the crowd, looking beyond the forum for other tuning options. However, Don't be tempted to buy a remap because its cheap! Making more power and torque from most engines is actually pretty easy. Its the finer details that make the biggest difference, but those finer details are not obvious, and are way outside the scope of what any of the 'We tune any car' type tuning companies can manage.

Nobody can specialise in everything, and that is why there are so many specialised tuning companies. Theres specialists for pretty much every make and model of vehicle, and its those who best understand the vehicles they choose to work with. If you had a Alfa Romeo, you'd be looking at Alfa Tune. If you had a Renault, you'd be looking at RS Tuning, or K-Tec. Mercedes Benz, you'd probably want to use DMS. Think about it. Idea

Reputation, experience and convenience.

BAS

Can change the map at will, tuned to standard and back to tuned. No risk of the map being overwritten by dealer.

Yes, but I went with BAS and I'm happy with it.

Shouldn't I have?

My point above was that people should be using specialists for tuning of different makes and models.

There is no doubt that BAS is a Land Rover specialist tuner, with an excellent reputation, and so you had of course made a very good choice. This is plain to see with your own recommendation, but that also highlights the point made right at the beginning of this thread (by RRS Daz), where many people on these forums simply follow the crowd, rather than looking around for alternative sources of tuning.

My reference above, to our ATRIC module (the same as the BAS box) merely highlights that there are other specialist alternatives out there, who just may also be very long term Site Sponsors too. Wink Feel the difference... Feel Alive!

Forgetting about your fancy TDV8's have you developed a map yet for the 2014 sdv6 engine?

Apparently DMS have, but I'd much prefer to use a LR specialist, and the idea of having a bluefin style box which can set it to standard or mapped when you need it is very appealing MY10 HSE 3.0 TDV6 : Santorini Black : Ebony Interior w/Anigre wood : Privacy Glass (total) : Sunroof : Sidesteps : Hybrid TV : Detachable Tow Kit : Spare Wheel Cover : 22" Dished Supersports

The MY14 SDV6 mapping (with stop/start) is virtually identical to previous versions of SDV6 (8spd), so would not be a problem for mapping. In May 2012, I had a MY12 8 speed SDV6 Disco 4 showing 303hp on a rolling road. I had another one on the dyno in May 2013, but at one of our dealers in Australia, and that made 304bhp and 654Nm.
I've not had a MY14 D4 or RRS on my own dyno yet, but have got some D4's booked in for the coming weeks.

On a side note, heres some real performance data taken using our Racelogic system:

Sorry, the racelogic timing data didn't format properly on here, as it doesn't like spaces or tabs, but its still pretty clear.

For example, on the results for the standard D4 6spd:
The 'Speed(mph)' column shows the 0-60mph, 0-100mph, 30-50mph, and 50-70mph scales. Next to the results is the elapsed time in seconds, so 8.7 seconds, 26.7 seconds, 3.6 seconds, and 5.0 seconds respectively.

That sir, is incredible Bow down

The 0-60 of the 4.2 S/C is listed at 7.2s

Can the 3.0 be mapped through the ODB port now, or does it still require ECU out?

3.0 and 4.4 diesel engines need to be reprogrammed on the bench, but thats not really a problem.

We also do a pretty impressive remap (via OBD) for the 4.2SC and 5.0SC, as well as the 4.4NA, all extensively tested between the UK and Australia. Wink Feel the difference... Feel Alive!
