Remaps - Land rover detection

Hi - I was wondering if anyone can tell me if dealers ever check for remaps? There seems to be quite a few people who have had them and I wondered if anyone has ever been refused warranty work due to a remap.

I've seen the BAS device - can that be detedted in any way? Is there a flash count on these cars that records the fact that its been flashed and then gone back to standard?

Hoping to buy a 3.6HSE on Monday with a view to mapping it.

Many thanks in advance.

There is a flash limit built into the ECU's, but due to the way the BAS (and other tuners) work, they do not add to the flash count

IIRC, it does save a re-programming date

In the days of the Diesel TD5 and V8 Motronic ECU's there indeed used to be an additive aspect of re programming ECU's known as a programming record that the Dealer equipment filled in and contained all the information about the data that was last programmed in, ie assembly numbers etc and the date it was programmed.

This had space limitations allowing only about 30 new records for a TD5 and 19 for a V8 Motronic.

But as DM states you could reflash the data in these without adding a new programming record.

The dealer equipment had no ability to actually read the data and only ever went by what the last record said was programmed in.

Moving forward to modern CAN BUS type engine managements, there is no longer any programming record, count or realistic limitation on the nuber of times an ECU can be reflashed, and the current assembly number is derived from the data itself. of course remaps provide the same assembly numbers as standard.

Given that i get to see on a very low level, exactly what access the dealers equipment has and makes to all ECU's, i can tell you that there is no way that any dealer with their standard equipment could tell a vehicle has been remapped.

I am a staunch supporter of Remaps and especially BAS ones.

Here is a picture of my own RRS getting Remapped on BAS's 4x4 rolling road.
