service dilema

Hi everyone

Hoping you can help with some advice.
I purchased my 10RRS about 6 months ago from a dealer, however remembered the dealer at the time telling me it'll be due it's service in 6 months time (now).

I spoke to a dealer to get a price and they have quoted me £666.60 for the 4th service which this one will be, however when asking what this covers they've told me;

- oil
- filters
- flush
- brake check
- steering check/fluids

this all seems rather basic to me, something i'd of thought the approved dealer would have done when turning the car around for sale so a little reluctant to spend £666 for a bit of oil and some filters, which could have / should have been changed 6 months ago when i purchased the car.

what do others think? i'm slightly worried about re sale value by missing a service but on the other hand feel like i could me doing myself out of £666 when all of the above jobs were done only 6 months ago.

thoughts?

Yep, vehicle should have been serviced before sale or service free after sale. We have just bought 11rrs, 23000 miles fully serviced befor picked it up at my request. Get a price from a good Indy in your area to compare. Surprised

Hello, I would not recommend missing a service, and always at a dealer. This is just because when you come to sell it, buyer cant use this as ammunition to knock money off.
Some independents are very good, and this is just my opinion.
I would speak to the original dealer and ask if they can sort something out for you on this cost. Thumbs Up Current Volvo XC90 R Design T8

There's a few things missing in your info;

How many miles have you done in six months

Was your vehicle purchased from a main dealer or a non affiliated one?

At that price I'd ring a couple of other dealers.

I think, in general to save money, LR dealers are sticking to JLR's recommended service frequency so they do not as a habit 'service' cars before re-sale.

They're "get-out-of-jail" card is they say the car is prepared in-line with the Land Rover Used car checklist!

I've done 3000 miles in 6 months - yes it was a main dealer!
i rang them and they said they didnt do a full service when they turned it over as it would have bought it forward too early...

It's worth spending an hour on the phone and annoying local dealers as prices do vary. My major service used to be £750 which included front pads at £150 odd.
As long as you can prove you have used genuine parts, no reason why not to use an Indi as the law now preserves your rights under the Fair Trading scheme. The parts inc all filters, oil and flush from LR is circa £175. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Has the service light pinged up on your dash yet? If not, wait till it does, but in the meantime do your homework on prices.

So I've had some costs from independents , ranging from £300 all the way up to £450
How does that work? Is it just a variation in hourly work rates or something?

Also one asked if I had a locking rear diff and active cornering control (apologies if this isn't the right name).
Does anyone know how id find out if the car has this from looking at it?

Ask your indy for hourly rate inc vat. My indy £40 + vat nearest LR main dealer £96 + vat

These require additional fluid changes (the locking rear diff has oil changed every 5 years instead of 10 years if I remember correctly).

The chances are that you don't have the locking rear diff as it was a cost option and rarely chosen (unless you have the HST which had the locking diff as standard I think). You can check by looking at the rear diff but it's a bit of a hassle. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
