Help with buying my first sport. Never thought I'd get one!

Love forums like these such a great spot to learn and get caught out. I'm about to spend around 15-16k on a 2.7 <100k on the clock.

I loved them since 2005 and always dreamed of one but thought they were reserved for the rich. Turns out I'm actually in that bracket by some chance. I have read as much as possible on the 2.7 and im reasonably confident I'm not a racer or need a big engine. I owned a 3.2 v8 alfa GTV and it gave me all the fun I'd needed in my youth. Now I want a big armchair to take my kids to school. The range rover sport is a poster boy for reliability in comparison to an alfa so im expecting service to be more than oil and tyres each year.

Is there any advice you would give on looking? I loved the pdf you guys published on buying but I want more details on what it's like to own and run.

My wife thinks I'm obsessed but I have always dreamed of owning one and im weeks away from it now Smile

Just want to make a great informed choice.
Thanks guys in advance.

Look at mine its a very well serviced great car. I have done all the things that go wrong is suspension bushes replaced with poly ones (much better) drop links.discs and pads.suspension compressor. Etc etc its a great car and I wouldn't be selling it but I bought another with a blown engine and I had the friends and know how to fix it.anyway take a look at mine..if its not for you good luck in your search but make sure you buy a well serviced car. Thanks guys, appreciate that, in fact I'd actually be happier with an enthusiast selling me one than a dealer - I used to help out on the old GTV forums with the alpha and if this forum is anything like it - I'm sure I'll love it. The Range Rover looks amazing to own. I've always been jealous watching you all.

So I'll keep an eye out, willing to travel to the mainland and get one if its worth the trip. But at least this side of the water I can drive it back and get a guarantee if I buy from a dealer.

I'm now officially on the hunt.

As another Ulsterman who gave in to temptation and bought a 2.7 HSE a couple of years ago, all I can say is "DO IT !"
Take your time to look for the right one, and I hope you won't regret it. I was looking all over the UK for the spec I wanted, and then it came up within about three miles of where I live.
Always a big smile when driving it, especially on the long journeys. 1979 Lightweight - NATO green
1983 Lightweight - Iraqi sand
1999 Discovery 2 - Blenheim Silver
2006 RR Sport - Stornaway Grey. Alpaca leather. Privacy glass

haha - nice one Timo. I was actually tempted to head over to Blighty to buy a better deal and ship her back. I see great examples on autotrader - back here in our little land we only have a few. I want one for March, so I've give myself 4 weeks to find the right one.

I want a 2.7 HSE with cream or ivory seats, I hear they weather bad, but that is a good way to see someone who has looked after theirs - if its grubby they dont care about it...

Really hoping I find a decent one, to be honest reading all the faults on here makes it seem a bad choice, but they make me smile when they drive past me, so I want that.

Q. Do most people do the belt and the thing that snaps well before 100k / 7 years or do they all hang back and the ones I see online are all waiting to get the work done?
