i like the privacy glass, for example potential thieves are unable to see what I have stored in the back seats and boot, but i know what you're getting at about the non-tinted front windows. i'm thinking of tinting these, within legal limits, to even things out a little. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.

Funny you should mention this, my mother in law asked me why all my vehicles have rear privacy glass as she always sits in the back, at that point i just started laughing, then the penny dropped She then called me a barsteward She has a good sense of humour i might add.

Privacy glass is £450 well spent IMHO , clear glass wouldn't look so bad if it was clear to the edges, they all have a black band of about 3" all round, which looks odd. You can still see it if you put film on, which looks odder, and cuts out much more light!

Plenty here that don't have it though. I don't even have a dark tint installed on my car as it is usually parked undercover. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

The security is one thing, it definitely keeps the car cooler inside - which we find useful for the dogs. On the sport, it does also look much better than without. I also know parents who have said similar benefits with their/for their kids in the back.

have had Limo tinted glass all round on most of my cars over the years, always great for hiding the big sound systems and keeping SWMBO urges for anytime anyplace anywhere happy back in the day

I totally agree that the front windows on any UK should not be tinted ever. Seeing is so important that I think the car should be impounded straight away with any tint on the front windows - isn't it an MOT test failure as well? Mike

Some manufacturers factory fitted privacy glass offers UV protection, you can check by looking at the etching on the glass MY2007 RRS TDV8 Black - tinted glass - side steps- stormer grille - 20" diamond cut alloys - alpaca leather - TV/DVD pack - some blingy chrome bits & bob's |

Not sure? Doesn't it come construction and use 1986 regs?? There are things that can be done/faulty on a car and the mot is passable but can still be against the construction and use regs therefore the police have powers to do something about it. Anyway I don't think full tints are a good idea but I have had quite a few cars done over the years, just the rears done makes it look like a van but it's a compromise I guess. Sample taken from wiki Window film and fading Window films filter out over 99% of UV Rays to 380 nm - helping to reduce the main contributor to fading. However, additional factors such as Solar Heat and Visible Light also contribute to fading. Therefore the greatest protection from fading is offered by tinted or metallised window films that reject large levels of heat and visible light - in addition to UV. |

It is an MOT failure and in most cases Plod will insist you remove front tint before allowing to drive away. Mine were done total black out rear of front doors and 5% on front doors. Pulled in and told to remove tint but protested they measured it with light meter and claimed 50% loss so pulled tint off. Following day spoke to tinter who refitted a bit and measured to confirm that even with LR tinted glass was still legal. So sent plod a bill which was never paid or acknowledged had tint redone and never an issue after. In my case it's a totally cosmetic exercise although it does stop casual glances by walkers from seeing what's on back seat. https://s3-eu-west-2.amazonaws.com/i.hubnu...faa5b4.jpg Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀 TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!! Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈 Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱 Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜 |

Yes, it is handy for that. I am not sure if mine is factory or not. It doesn't seem as dark as some I see. My fronts are slightly tinted as well, but to a much lesser degree. I agree that they look right with privacy glass. |
