So its been a year since i've owned my RRS and absolutely love it.

I think its time for a good full service.

Called up my local land rover dealers and they said £550, I also contacted other garages and came across Servicing Stop.

They seem to be offering a higher point check service than LR themselves at a price of £205 which is considerably cheaper and I am very tempted to book with them.

They also pick up and deliver back to you inclusive.

Anybody have there RRS serviced with them before or is it to good to be true, & who should I service with?

At £205 thats not going to give your sport a good service When i enquired about the cost of an intrim oil change my dealer quoted me £160.00 An thats was supposed to have been discounted, so at £205 i would be asking what exactly does this cover.

I'd make sure you get genuine LR oil filter as non gen ones can cause issues if they twist in situ.

Work it through like this, oil filter (genuine) £10-£20 depending source. Oil, 6l (8 bought to give required), correct spec castrol £45 cheapest none retail, new sump plug £6 air filter (genuine) £10. So before labour £70-100.

It can take an hour to service it say £50ph

Then it depends what else they might do. Fuel filters can be a few pounds, aux drive belts? Other fluids.

I service most of the family cars, only the ones in 3years go to dealership we have all ages too.

Thanks for the idea of the prices, before they pick it up they will tell me what garage it is going to so I think I'll call in before it gets picked up to see how much they might charge roughly. Now I know to challenge there prices if they quote anything stupid

It does say in the schedule thing that the changes are included but I guess they'll end up saying they require special oils for my car

Some of these places make me laugh, with modern diagnostics, and if you know your product you don't need a sheet of paper to tell you what to look at. I was using check sheets like that 40 years when I was servicing about 4 cars a day, and believe me there was a lot more to service on the old cars than the modern ones of today.

You need to ask yourself why spend money on a 50k motor and then expect a good quality service for 200.00, when if anything goes wrong with cheap parts or oil it could cost you up to 7k to replace the engine.

I know we all shop around but cheapest is not always the best option.

Just pay the extra and get it serviced by a proper LR specialist, and not some back street garage that they probably use.

The thing is - quality parts (i only use genuine and/or the high spec brands all at the correct spec) aren't actually that expensive. As an example, I have loads of genuine oil/fuel filters in the garage - fuel filter genuine i think is £11, pattern part is maybe £7. Genuine is a known product, with 12 month warranty and only £4 more.

I would never put a none genuine part on any critical system, unless it was of better quality/manufacturer (i have been using EBC brakes for a long time as an example).

Modern Cars, actually cars that have been around for a while, most of the main services are a stroke of an oil filter and a tickle of its engine (if you follow the service schedule). I forgot which car it is that says the air filter should only be changed every 2 years for the sake of a few £ and then get all the genuine parts and replace them at a service.

That said routine maintenance, isnt a service any more and shouldn't be an 12 month service thing, you need to interpret when the service sheets say based on knowledge eg: Sealed for life (or 10 year) stuff - why not do it every year or every two years, it doesn't take that long Mike

Recently had 60k Service done at Main Dealer cost £590.00 with Vat. included MOT, Re-Gas and Service Air Con. plus Renew Brake Fluid also included Collection and Delivery of car. Didn't think that was to bad a price.

Buy your own parts, and give them to the garage to fit. That way, you know what has been done, and you still get a stamp in the book, but you don't get your trousers pulled down over the price
