Very happy about the recent announcement from our friends at GAP Diagnostics about the additional functionality which will be added at the next update 2.19.

As I understand it, to take full advantage of the ECU reflashing capabilities it is essential to connect a suitable power supply to the battery that provides a smoothed voltage. Not doing so risks failure of the update process and hence 'bricking' the ECU or at least having to go through a complicated procedure to reinstall the ECU firmware.

I've already have a CTEK 5.0 amp charger but unfortunately I believe this doesn't have the power supply function.

Looking at the CTEK website I noticed that where previously they made reference to the higher rated chargers having the power supply function suitable for ECU flashing, these claims are no longer present.

So... sorry about the long intro but my question is - are any of the CTEK chargers suitable to use as power supply when reflashing ECUs? What is the best solution? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

A 10 amp charger should be good enough, if doing 1 module at a time, and if the battery is at 100% charge.

For the longer updates (SNOTM for example) you really need a 25A charger to do it. I have had failed updated to the touch screen module, due to low voltage in the past. Now, the 25A Ctek comes everywhere with me, just in case.
It wasn't cheap, but it has never let me down

The MXS 25, as the name suggests, can supply a constant 25A, which is ideal for programming

I always use my mxs25 for longer updates, in fact anything more than one module TBH  Bodsys Brake Bible
