RRS 2005 with 22'' Wheels, did you mod the wheel nuts? Check
Hi,
Got my 2005 RRS 3yrs ago and got all the HST kits with a good looking chromed out 22'' on it. Few days ago, got both from lower arm suspension changed due to it being worn out with brake pad/discs also changed.
The garage advised I buy new wheels nuts are 8 or so of the nuts had worn out so needed replacing. So had them changed...while driving noticed the front brakes/tyres had some squeaky noise and initially thought maybe because the front brakes/discs was changed, needed time/few miles for them to rub together. So next day on my way driving from the airport, the noise got worse and luckily was i was 10mins away from getting home bang goes the HDC fault suspsension, suspension lowered error on the dashboard. Got home, switched off the engine and started again, the error msg seems to have cleared and straight when into the garage and the took the car for a drive and also noticed the terrible noise from the front tyre/brakes.
During inspection after taking the wheel off and cudnt see anything wrong with the new brakes or discs fitted, they noticed the original wheel nuts that was on the rims before i brought it in seems to have been modified and had the top end cut off to make it flat and tighten the wheels to the hub/bearing and was abit shorter than the new nuts they bought as both front tyres had mixtures of the old nuts and new nuts fitted hence the squeaky/awful noise and believe because the new nuts was longer than the original nuts was has been mod to fit the wheels they wheels was rubbing against the disc/hub and because of the sensor on the brake, it transmitted the error to the dashboard.
See attached pics to new nuts fitted and the original wheel nuts that came with the car fitted with the 22''
As you can see, on the new wheel nuts, there is a slant edge but on the mod nuts that came with the car, its been cut off to make it flat.
Did anyone had to do this to their nuts on those who has got 22'' on.....It's worth while taking a nut out to check them as if you do get new nuts, you might end up getting squeaky noise off the tyres and might be hard to figure out what the problem is.
