Once upon a time.....

If you're sitting comfortably I'd like to tell you a story....

When I were a lad I was lucky enough to spend school holidays on a farm where my grandparents rented a cottage. I made friends with the farmers son and spent many happy hours being bumped around in the back of an open top series LR across fields and rivers checking the livestock. I was hooked Bow down

In 2000 I finally afforded a LR - Freelander 1 XEDi demo. First service the dealer rang to say they noticed the tracking was out and the tyres were unevenly worn so they were replacing them - FREE! I was like a dog with 2 tails - why had I not bought a LR sooner - I swore I would never drive anything else Cool

2 years passed without an issue I got brave and bought a Discovery 2 demo - it was a dog so I instantly rejected it but the salesman dug his heels in and had to contact dealer principal resulting in apology and refund with a new deal at sister branch through another salesman. They scratched the roof fitting roof rails but sorted it so all was forgiven and over the next 8 years I owned another Fl1, D2 and 2x FL2's without a complaint - I was very happy Thumbs Up

For part of this period we had 2 LR's and one of them developed a clutch problem weeks after the 3 year warranty expired and my dealer wanted me to pay the full bill with no mention of LRCS or goodwill. That dealer was struck off my list when I asked another dealer and he said he would speak to LRCS on my behalf resulting in a 50% contribution Smile

During this period SWMBO had some devastating news regarding the Big C but eventually we got through that and I made it my goal to buy a RRS because she loved them Embarassed

In 2010 her dream became reality - we payed twice our previous budget and picked up a MY10 RRS but it all went downhill from there Big Cry

1. Missing wiring loom for door lighting took 3 months of buck passing then back order to sort
2. Rear door had to be resprayed due to foreign body under paint
3. Xmas tree lights syndrome with visits and updates galore
4. Knocking suspension
5. Uneven tyre wear
6. Power loss at junctions

We put up with all this until summer 2012 when as many of you know the dealer dropped it off a ramp while the wheels were off and 3 stressful months later it was eventually fixed and returned with another dealer struck off my list Evil or Very Mad

At this point I decided that LR was not living up to my expectations and would be looking elsewhere in future Rolling Eyes

However I was persuaded by LRCS not to give up and when the xmas tree lights and power loss returned I decided it was time to start again as I was having some health issues and SWMBO had another brush with the Big C so wanted a clean slate and ordered a Black Edition but again as many of you know it went wrong again with mix up on order by dealer and damage to swap interior and another dealer struck off my list Banging Head

When the replacement BE was delivered I hoped my problems were over and although shocked to find the front sensors no longer work when towing on this model I looked back and thought it could be worse Rolling Eyes

However yesterday I had the straw that broke the camels back. I no longer use the dealers in my area because of the previous issues so I travelled 50 miles to a forum dealer only to be told after 4.5 hours of walking around freezing shops waiting for my car that they had not ordered the right parts or quoted the correct price so I needed to make another trip and pay another £350+ Thud

Also the warranty repair to fix the deflating lumbar was not done because it did not deflate while sat in the workshop - it deflates when I'm driving and overnight but without taking a lie test I can not prove this Sad

So after driving another 50 miles home in the dark on some of the worst roads I've seen and not sleeping a wink thanks to my ongoing stress/health issue I find myself here again ranting like Victor Meldrew Embarassed

I think its time some of the long serving forum members were given jobs at LR - many here have more idea how to fix them and look after customers Bow down

Sorting problems with LR is taking too much out of me and like many before me I need to move on - another brand might not give me the big grin I have when things are going well but at least I wont be grumpy with the family the rest of the time due to lack of sleep worrying or stress Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

I feel or you MW your not having a good time with LR

Luckily my dealers are looking after me on to occasion once a month visit for various minor niggles

June next year the warrenty runs out and my only option will be LR Select Warranty which is not supposed to be very good

I have a feeling it will then be LR independants as I won't be able to afford LR main Dealer repair costs or wish to risk third party warranty companies

I bet you get this feeling quite a lot with L/R these days. Banging Head If it wasn't for bad luck, i get the feeling you wouldn't have any. Crying or Very sad There are worse things that could be wrong Muddy, just look at Simples experience with his previous RRS Shocked I know its not acceptable, but what do you do Question If i was unhappy with my sport then it would go. I'm not the sort of guy that is prepared to put up with problem after problem with my motors. The other problem you have got is, where do you go from here Question I wouldn't hang on to a sport just to tow my caravan a few times a year, i'd hire something capable of towing it and enjoy something else 11 months of the year. Thumbs Up

It's not a good situation Muddy and to be honest, I admire you determination in sticking with the 'Brand' but like Ady there's no way I'd have endured all that Shocked . Personally I don't see how you are going to ever feel good about the RRS and the LR brand in the future. I'd be checking out something else if I was you. Wink

In contrast to your dealer service, I had to take my car into BMW yesterday for a couple of very minor things to resolve (iphone adaptor cable problem and missing floor mat stays) and they could not have been more helpful and even offered to pay my petrol for the inconvenience. Yes, I'm not driving an RRS, but the service was exceptional Bow down

Good luck in whatever you choose Muddy, but in the meantime, remember its only a car and don't let it get you down Wink Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Censored unbelievable bad luck Muddy,
Life/work is stressful enough without having to put up with this s Censored over a car.
LR should be ashamed over the history of your case.

Feel for you MW - it really does seem to be one thing after another and perhaps it is time to ditch LR. You are running out of dealers - like you I wouldn't let my local dealer near mine again. But it shouldn't be like that. These are luxury cars but until the dealers treat customers with the respect we deserve this debate will go on a long while. We can only vote with our feet if we are unhappy - as my old boss told me when I asked him why my profit share hadn't been forthcoming. I did and it was the best advice I ever had !!

My RRS has been behaving itself impeccably recently and TBH I daren't swap it for another RRS given the horror stories that abound. To me the lottery of getting a decent one just isnt worth it. I would like another as ours is coming up for 7 years old and it's a 600 mile round trip to visit our daughter at university and it's the most comfortable car I've owned.......but would I have the same trust in a newer one than I have in mine at the moment ?? So I'm gong to hold onto this one for a while longer.

Best of luck whatever you decide. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Sorry to hear all the issues you have had Muddy Mad

You have a lot more patience than me Evil or Very Mad

I would have given up long ago. All I would say is it's a car and you have spent good, hard earned moiney on it. If your not getting the service from LR then it may be time to move on.

Good luck with whatever you choose but just rememeber there are always more important things.

Have a great Christmas with your family. Thumbs Up

Maybe its time you emailed the guy right at the top of the ladder Muddy. I'm sure this isn't what JLR want to hear about its dealer network. Whistle I know Pete at customer services has his hands tied as to what he can do, but i would go right to the top this time. As said above, don't let it spoil your lifestyle and relasionship with your family anymore, its only a car. Good luck. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the comments Bow down

I have the email addresses for Dr Speth and others at the top and contacted them after the ramp incident without success Rolling Eyes

I agree they are only cars and I am embarrassed to admit I became addicted to all things LR over the years and this forum but I agree its time to get a life Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Sorry to hear your troubles, it would appear that LR dealers nationwide are failing to live up to the LR Hype. I wonder what qualifications are required to gain employment with them...Hope your situation improves soon.

Muddy, If you are on Twitter or Facebook send them a massage on there. They will respond then, because everyone can read it and they don't like bad press on a network like Twitterbook Whistle

Muddy, for what it's worth just wanted to say you have my sympathy and support. It seems to me that LR having found a large market of naive Chinese 'new money' types to sell their products to have pretty much turned around and kicked their UK customers in the b Censored s saying "we don't need you anymore so you can Censored off!".

The most recent evidence of this was the cynical big mark up of spares - but only the parts they sell a lot of.

Have you thought about getting yourself a face-lift Cayenne V8? They are great value on the used market and if you check the forum for 'what goes wrong' you'll be amazed to find there are only a couple of minor things that ever crop up in sharp contrast to the endless list of faults that regularly crop up and that LR seem incapable of fixing and to make matters worse get passed on the next generation of cars.

Oh - and a few years back Porsche used to have a LR type system for dealerships but then they got fed up and took them all over. Things have improved tremendously to the point where I actually look forward to going up to the dealer now even if it is only just to pick up a few spares. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I agree, I had a Cayenne for a number of years, service was second to none, service charges were very competitive and sometimes did more than was asked and did not charge me.
On one occasion they found a nail in a tyre whilst in for a service, they rang me and said it could off happened at Porsche garage so no arguments no 50% contributions etc we will replace FOC.

This is why I am seriously looking at the new Porsche Macan, yes a lot smaller, wont go off road as good, but I have never been off road anyway.
Not that I have had any issues with my RRS but getting on a bit now, and this forum scares the life out of me with the horror stories, yours included that I read.

Good luck with any new purchase you may make. Thumbs Up Current Volvo XC90 R Design T8

Dhups has said exactly what I was thinking MW - You work extremely hard to buy your P&J and in all honesty, the way you have been treated is unacceptable.
