If you search the disco3 site you'll see they were discussed wrt to engine swap and the feelings weren't too good.

It seems only Land Rover can supply vital parts needed for a rebuild and they won't supply to anyone other than their engine rebuilder that they won't name. So the question arises - what are outfits like Global Engines actually doing? Cobbling engines together from several scrap ones? Have you ever been to Barking? Laughing

When the esteemed expert contributor to this site the legendary Disco Mikey was faced with the blown engine problem I think he sourced a replacement from a breakers and it was Euro Jag http://www.eurojag.com/jaguar-engines-c-32...p-893.html . Some jaguars use the same engine.

Then you just (!) need a good garage to swop over the ancillaries from your old blown engine to the new one and install it. If you are lucky maybe DM will be along in a minute to offer some advice. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Hi Paddi
Mmm, yes I've been to Barking albeit many years ago...hence my post ! thanks for the feedback. Mikey has already commented on another thread, suggesting i check out the oil filter fitting......................I'd be really shocked if this turned out to be the case as i had her serviced by a) landrover specialist b) whom i trust 100%

having said all of that i guess everyone makes human errors.

Am i right in thinking i cant upgrade to the later 3 Litre engine ?

Also - IIRC, isnt the jaguar s type engine twin turbo vs the rrs being single, would it be better to swtich to this engine.

Seems a shame to have to spend ££££ and not get a performance uplift !

This episode has been quite a shock, still i suppose after 30 odd years of motoring, one blown engine isnt too bad? It might make me think twice about buying high mileage again though (135k on the sport)

There's plenty of oversize bits available to fix these now. A buddy of mine had one done by them recently and the engine is really smooth, much quieter than ever before. So that's all good.
Not so good was the fact the broke the crank sensor and instead of replacing it, they silicone'd it back in place.

When back in Ireland, new crank sensor ring and sensor and all is good.

Yes they removed it all through the front...... And surprisingly quickly! He had it back in four days. But only arranged in the Friday, drove over the weekend from Ireland, dropped it off Monday and flew back over Thursday to collect. Bodsys Brake Bible

Rick,
Well there you go - nothing better than testimony from Bodsy Thumbs Up Had seen that parts made available but up until now had not heard of any opinions on their quality.

There is another thread on disco3: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic95297.h...p;start=15

with another satisfied customer.

DM fitted the S Type engine but I guess you have to choose the right one. I'm no expert but imagine upgrading to a later engine might be very very complex because all the ECU's have to be matched to each other.

Hope you can get it sorted out. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I went through EXACTLY the same thoughts Laughing

Buy a 2.7 twin turbo, and have that set up. However, due to budget and time constraints, it was not a viable option for me. I think I had a way around getting the 2nd turbo to work, and it would not have been difficult to get an exhaust made up. But, whether there was enough space for the 2nd turbo, I don't know.

The 3.0, I had a quick think about that one too, but the management system between the 2/7 + 3.0 is completely different

I did also have crazy thoughts about trying to squeeze a TDV8 into it, but again, budget and time were against me Big Cry

I sourced a complete 2.7 S-Type engine from Eurojag. Low mileage, 49k, and delivery for less than £2500. A few differences, main one being the sump/strengthening block on the bottom of the crankcase, and a few blanking plugs to swap over

BUT, wait and see what the outcome is of your original failure Thumbs Up
