Hi from a newbie looking for advice please?

Hi
Looking to buy an SUV with enough space for a couple of big dogs in the back. Unlikely to be used off-road much
.
We love the looks of the RRS but have been frightened off by horror stories of unreliability, breakdowns and expensive repairs. However, test drives and closer looks at Q7, Toureg, Merc. ML and GL still leave us preferring RRS .

Probably to be used for a 60+ mile per day round trip to Exeter on the A30 one half of the year and general local use otherwise by one or 'tother of us to take dogs to the beach etc..
Thinking of the TDV6 3.0 or SDV6 3.0, (but what's the difference?) maybe 2010/11 or newer - budget around £40k.
How do the DPF filters behave on these models, are they too much hassle?

Advice and information on reliability from actual owners would be good to hear.

TIA

Pete

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Santorini Black

Hi Pete,
cannot comment on older RRS, I bought a new one this year, used as a daily drive.
I have 2 St Bernards that go in the back. Ideal motor for me.
I have covered 9000 miles in 4 months, no problems.
A great car all round, best car I have had for a long while and I have had a few. MY13.5 Autobiography, Santorini Black, Privacy Glass. Gone
Driving a milk float for now.

Thanks, we hope to get an early 13 plate or late 62. If you can get two Bernies in the back our Labrador and one St B should be comfy. Very Happy

I have carried our Westie and Parson Russell in a dog crate in our RRS but if I had 2 big dogs I would definitely go for a D4 - the sloping roof/tailgate restricts the useable space considerably Sad

Some info here on differences between SDV6 and TDV6 http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/land-r...0-sdv6-hse Thumbs Up

My RRS's have been the least reliable JLR vehicles I have owned so would never own one without warranty - but I do love them so bought another Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

After hearing of all the problems with your MY10, it's enough to put anyone off! I'm glad that your new one is working as it should. Thumbs Up

Let's hope mine will be as reliable as my Freelander. Shocked Arrived: MY16 A/B SDV6 in Aruba, Ivory interior, piano black trim, black panoramic roof, spare wheel, blind spot monitoring, mudlaps and more... Twisted Evil

Gone but not forgotten:
2014 RRS2 SDV6 HSE in Loire Blue
2011 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE in Santorini Black

Sadly not working as it should be but thats another story - front sensors don't work when towing (apparently revised feature) and recently discovered lumbar support deflating - will now need to book another half day trip to dealer so they can inspect then second trip when parts are in so they can sort it while keeping everything crossed they don't damage anything while they work on it again Crying or Very sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
