Wales 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange
which members have been in both camps? RRS V's FFRR

I've had both, plus the P38 (still have one at holiday home in Tenerife)

Experiences?
Pros and Cons ?
Preferences ?
Best models?

I've had FFRR 4.4 Vouge MY52, and after the P38 it was the best car I'd ever owned. At that time I had a Mercedes SL and had to sell it as I preferred the FFRR. I also had an 1887 Jaguar XJS-C, which also never got driven (200 miles a year), so that went too. When it was time to change, I really didn't want to spend an extra £10-£15k on the 'same' car, just a different colour/year and engine, so went for the RRS. If anyone has had both, they may understand, even after 2 years of ownership, why I'd wished I'd gone for the FFRR S/C instead. BUT, if you've never had a FFRR, you'll never understand what I mean.  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Prefer RR Vouge S/C but they don't do Orange !

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

I was torn between a full size Rangey and the Sport. In the end, I opted for the Sport when the exact one I wanted came along. I must say I am liking it up to now despite the usual clunks and little foibles.

I also had a P38 in the past, and when I wasn't in the petrol station or booking it in for suspension airbags to be fixed, it was OK (if I tried to ignore the fuel gauge). I also had an early shape Range Rover back in the day.

We still have a Chrysler 300C, which is now wifeys runaround as it wasn't worth enough to be bothered selling it. Recent history includes some S197 shape Mustangs I imported, a Dodge Ram I imported, and an S Class or two. The last of which put me off Mercs altogether (and I was always a Merc guy in the past).

Now I think I am a Range Rover bloke. As Clarkson once said, there are Range Rovers, and then there are "other cars".........

2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Zermatt Silver

I have an FFRR and a Sport, FFRR is TD6 and Sport TDV8, the TDV8 is a phenomenal engine but I always jump in the 04 FFRR as a matter of choice, for me its a more enoyable experience, my Audi S6 hasnt turned a wheel in 3 months..... nuff said Very Happy

Scotland 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Stornoway Grey

Traded my 2002 Vogue 4.4 in for my 2006 Sport Supercharged about a month ago. Couldn't be happier and the wife much prefers the size of the sport in comparison to the FFRR. Very Happy Very Happy 2006 Supercharged

Australia 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black

I have had 2x P38s (one in the USA when I lived there) and apart from a $2500 aircon repair on the US car, they were both great. I had a TD6 FFRR but it was the wrong engine for me, no go and a bit noisy. I have had 2x RRS, one I hated, the other was brilliant. I would love a new FFRR but they are almost a quarter of a million $ here for an SC which is silly. Maybe a used one in 5 years time. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
Gone - 2009 Buckingham Blue RRS 2.7 TDV6
Gone - 2010 Alaska White RRS 5.0 V8 Aspirated
Gone - 2017 Chawton White RRS 5.0 V8 Supercharged
Current - 2010 Java Black RRS 5.0 V8 Aspirated
Current- 2024 RRS P400 SE Dynamic

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Lux Orkney Grey

Had one or two, started in 1974 !

e.g.
1974 3.5 V8
1978 3.5 V8
1983 3.5 V8 (Oil pump drive sheared at 80,000mls, recon engine fitted added another 40,000mls)
1988 3.9 LSE
1990 Disco Diesel - lasted 6 weeks; pile of Censored
1994 P38 (transfer box replaced under warranty because it jammed solid)
1998 P38 (150,000 miles no issues)
2004 FFRR TD6 no issues
2006 FFRR TD6 no issues
2009 RRS TDV6 (cracked screen, usual bushes)
2010 RRS TDV8 (roll bar, bushes, compressor, alternator, battery etc, etc, inside 3 weeks, went back to dealer)

Changed from FFRR to RRS because the full-fat started to become too expensive to 'play' with and looked a bit bloated and like a shed against the RRS.

That said the FFRR's cabin is a very nice place to be.

Temporarily without either but with the RRS cost sitting north of £60 grand and the FFRR at well into the £80grand bracket with depreciation at eye watering levels there's no logical reason.

Add to this expensive the fact that unreliability is something I will simply not accept in a modern car in this bracket LR's record does not help.

So its a totally emotional purchase but they're moving beyond my "toys and just for fun" budget.

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Cairns Blue

Started with a 2002 full fat, changed to a new V6 Sport in 2005, another new one in 2006 and finally V8 in 2007. Now back in a Fullfat. If I had all to do again, I'd get another Sport but my story is well known. Whistle
Originally changed from Fullfat for two reasons, it wouldn't fit in our office car park and there wasn't a decent diesel version available. Even with all the problems, I still miss my Sport and don't drive the Fullfat much as L200 has more curb appeal Rolling with laughter 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Wales 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange

thing is, unless you've had a FFRR then you'll never appreciate the quality, drive, build or prestige of driving one, versus the RRS - plus the wife is a good foot further away from you when driving ! Lol  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Prefer RR Vouge S/C but they don't do Orange !

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black

It’s a very personal thing, the FF is in a class of its own in terms of luxury, comfort and ride with every conceivable extra. The Vogue is a very nice place to be.

The RRS is (in my opinion) a much better looking car and if you ever do fancy a slightly more aggressive drive handles better than the FF, although of course is no sports car either. The most modern RRS I’ve owned was a 57 plate HSE and whilst well-appointed it is slightly down on the FF Vogue in terms of extras and quality of seats, leather and general interior, felt more plastic than the FF. I personally prefer the 19 inch wheel set up on a RRS and find the 20 inch wheels with low profile tyres deliver a harsher ride so my old 2005 RRS V8 was a better ride than the two TDV8’s I had. Flip side the TDV8 is a very capable power unit in either FF or RRS.

RRS has that stupid spare wheel under the rear of the car, needing to be winched down in the event of use. These get stolen and really mucky so if you are unfortunate enough to need to change a wheel can be pain, this is really poor design in my humble opinion. FF spare lives in boot so all nice and secure.

From a reliability perspective they are both highly complex and need lots of love and attention, the RRS Diesels can be a pain if you are unfortunate enough to have turbo issues as main agents mandate it is a body off job to replace. I had lots of issues with one TDV8 in particular, but also had a really nice one which I still miss. Based on my own experiences and those of friends who have FF’s I’d say the FF has a slight edge in terms of reliability but there are plenty of horror stories with FF’s as well as RRS.

Difficult choice and really down to which you (or the misses) prefer. I’d suggest a couple of test drives in both types and see what you think at the end.

I'm currently away from all things LR and missing them like crazy and am currently giving serious consideration to going back to a RRS, FF or even a Disco 3. --------------------------------------------------------
