Coolant SG

The service life of the OEM coolant in the 2.7TDV6 is 10 years but the caveat is that at each service the Specific Gravity is tested and if outside specifications the coolant is changed - I wonder how many dealers actually do this test??

I have searched but cannot find what the required Specific Gravity range is for the coolant.

Anyone know what it is?

Thanks

My guess? Most don't bother.

If you buy a specific gravity tester it will come with some instructions and the scale on the tester will indicate in simple terms the % of antifreeze you have.

Unless you know the history of your car from new I would change the antifreeze regardless as the pH can change with time and the anti-corrosion properties will probably have degraded. Given the immense complexity of the cooling system it makes sense to give it the best protection. I couldn't find the specified coolant anywhere so bit the bullet and bought it from Land Rover.

The specific gravity recommended is given below:

Engine Cooling - TDV6 2.7L Diesel -
Fluids and Capacities
Item Specification
* Anti-freeze Havoline Extended Life Coolant (XLC) or any ethylene glycol based anti-freeze
containing no methanol with only Organic Acid Technology (OAT) corrosion inhibitors
Anti-freeze concentration - Will provide frost protection to -40°C (-40°F) 50%
Specific gravity of coolant at 20°C (68°F), to protect against frost down to -40°C (-40°F) 1.068
Amount of anti-freeze to use for 50% concentration:
Without fuel burning heater 4.7 litres (8.25 pints) (4.9 US quarts)
With fuel burning heater 5.1 litres (9.1 pints) (5.4 US quarts) 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
