United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Lux Orkney Grey
National Mileage Register (NMR) & HPI

Here's a warning - or "How a week can be a long time in car ownership"

I bought a car (we'll keep dealers out of it for moment) 12months old from Hi-end brand dealership. Was told it was one owner with warranted mileage. Saw the car it looked and drove OK.

Going through the bunch of paperwork after collection I came across a report; two entries one in April and one in September. Problem was the Sept. mileage was less than the April's. So it had driven backwards for 5 months. The NMR said "...no discrepancy ..." and HPI is clear.

An email to original supplying dealership yielded a very a quick response by the Dealer Principal who says car was in a serious accident in April, when 1st owner then sold it - I have written to him but not had a reply yet!!

My Dealer first says "Ahhh, just a typo.." they will get it changed !!! I say but what's it done for 5 months and why are there parts sticker dated 2010 when car was built in 2012 ? - the supply chain doesn't take that long !!

Long story short: I made them collect it as my insurance would be invalid etc. I'm now getting my money back.

I asked about a goodwill gesture for the hassle - they didn't understand the concept.

Considering the millions spent on Customer relations etc why on earth didn't the dealership's staff twig something was up!

When I re-instated my insurance they asked me how I'd found out and were (to give them their due, very concerned) that it might crop up for insurance by someone else.

So be warned just because HPI & NMR say its OK check with dealers upstream and note the HPI indemnity only goes up to £30k !!
