2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HST Santorini Black

If it is factory fitted and your 100 % that there has not been an after market tint fitted, take the car to be tested again at your friendly pig shop and ask them to check it.
It may be that a mistake was made or the light meter is faulty.
Cheers
Bob

I have the rears tinted on my new car and tbh you can't tell its film as there's no edge, crinkles or bubbles.

Quick answer
Tinted vehicle windows: the law
Not what you're looking for? ↓
The rules for tinted front windscreens and front side windows depend on when the vehicle was first used. There are no rules for tinting the rear windscreen or rear passenger windows.
Vehicles first used on 1 April 1985 or later
The front windscreen must let at least 75% of light through and the front side windows must let at least 70% of light through.

Vehicles first used before 1 April 1985
The front windscreen and front side windows must both let at least 70% of light through.

Penalties for having wrongly tinted windows
It’s illegal to fit or sell glass (or a vehicle already fitted with glass) that breaks the rules on tinted windows.

The police or VOSA vehicle examiners use light measuring equipment to measure window tint.

If your windscreen or front side windows are tinted too much you could get:

a ‘prohibition notice’ stopping you using your vehicle on the road until you have the extra tint removed
a penalty notice or court summons
Tinted windows are not part of the MOT test.

The mot part is interesting.
With more and more people ignoring this law I wonder how long it'll be before it is part of the mot test.....

The front side windows on my RRS were tinted by a former owner. They are quite dark and I wonder if they'd fail the light meter test. The tint, in my case, is a film applied to the window - I can see the edge of the film if I look carefully. Presumably it would be a relatively simple affair to remove the tint by just peeling it off? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yes, apply some heat from a hair dryer to break the bond and it should peel away. 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

yes, mine was film over the glass & he said I had to remove it before he would let me go as car was unsafe to drive ( Censored ), I had my 2 kids in the car & the baby was late for a feed so I refused to remove them, told the copper I would drive home with the windows open and there was nothing he could do about it as the car was perfectly safe if I wasn't looking through tinted glass. To his frustration he had no choice to but let me go Laughing he said that he was putting it on the system that if any other patrol caught me with my windows up he was personally coming round my house to nick me again

What a wa Censored er!!!

Driving with less than 70% of the available light getting through the side windows while carrying young children. There was a w@@@@r there but it was not the kind thoughtful Policeman.

Sorry to say this but why is the copper a w@@@@r? Because your car had illegally tinted windows?

You broke the law and you got caught, if you can't do the time don't do the crime!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater of the police, I think they do an amazing job and one that I could never do. That said, there is a right way to treat people and then there are wa@@@rs, it wasn't what he did but more so the way he went about it, on a power trip (obviously bullied at school)

Only in nightclubs when I want to look cool Cool Thumbs Up

No seriously, of course I don't, but my slightly tinted windows were nowhere near as dark as pair of sunglasses & visibility was never a problem.
