If it has full main dealer service history, then i would stick with a main dealer. But expect to pay quite a bit more for the service than from an indi. Its all down to personal choice really. Many people say why pay more just to get a main dealer stamp in the book. A good reputable indi will probably give you a far better deal.

£500-£700 at a dealer depending on exactly what needs doing. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Funnily enough I was just about to start a thread about TDV8 servicing.

Basically, my father has a TDV8 Facelift, and is due for its 3rd service. It has had two services from main dealers thus far, and he's getting it £200 cheaper from an indi. Is it worth it? What sort of effect will it have on its resale value?

Regards
Sunny

Hi,
You've touched on one of my hobby horses here. I'm convinced that main dealers do not follow the Land Rover recommended maintenance schedules. Take it in for a service and all you get is a quick and sloppily carried out oil and filter change, a recommendation to change an expensive part or parts (which is/are probably perfectly OK and curiously always seems to be something that can be fitted with very little effort - usually discs and pads), then they chuck a bucket of fairy liquid over it and give it back to you with a bill for about £1,000 + (which includes a fiver for screenwash!).

Much better and cheaper to first study carefully the maintenance schedule which you can find here:

http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/us...0Miles.pdf

Make a list of EXACTLY what should be done [For example at 72 months (roughly age of your TDV8) note that the brake fluid and flexible brake hoses are due to be changed] and obtain all the parts and fluids at a discount from site sponsors Advanced Motor Factors or Duckworths and then take the list and parts to your nearest Land Rover specialist with a good reputation and ask them to carry out the service. OR you could engage the services of site sponsors who come to you and do the service (Flack, Bodsy et al)

BTW in case you didn't already know - the TDV8 doesn't have cambelts so you can ignore the cambelt change bit.

Better still if you are handy with a spanner - do as much as you can yourself and just ask the garage to do the tricky bits.

Don't red ripped off Thumbs Up 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Go to Stratstone but ask for the price with non genuine parts (LR parts in non LR boxes). Last service was similar price to Indies, plus they will valet car for you.
Go and see Rik on service. They will bend on price. RRS TDV8 MY2010 Stornoway Grey

Knowing what goes on inside a Stratstone dealership, I can assure you, the aftermarket bits they use are not OEM. They come in a blue box, and sold by a company affectionately known as Sh*tpart Whistle
